(12,030 characters)hey there folks this is Josh Stony Ridge farmer welcome back to another gorgeous day here in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina on the Stony Ridge Farm we're on a regenerative farm and part of being a regenerative farmer is letting stuff like this which is a lemon turn into lemonade and that's how we're going to do this today we're going to be using a wood chipper in the front of the skid steer this is going to be kind of the first introduction SL test of this wood Max MX 9900 SS ss4 skid deer I think we're going to go around we'll show you the tool we'll show you all the Cool Tools we're going to be using today and I'll post links down the video description in case you guys want to pick yourself up one or all of the Cool Tools we're using let's get this brush and turn it into gold out here in the pasture I ain't afraid of word I ain't afraid to play I ain't afraid to get the job done and do it my own damn way ain't afraid of Li times like this if you mess my freedom I tell what you kiss all right everybody Welcome to the Stony rid Farm Channel this is your first time or your 50th time here please hit that like button it helps us trust me consider subscribing to the channel love to have you back here this is the Kabota RTV x1140 that I zip around on the farm with it's slow it's really slow on the back there we have a few tools and we'll show you those in just a second the next thing we want to show you is the skid loader so this is a Gil RT 210 Gail Gail Gail I don't know how do you pronounce it uh this thing is a really cool machine it has the ideal track system which means it typically will never throw a track cuz it autot tensions the track tension on this skid loader awesome awesome we used to have a tired unit uh that that was I guess it was a John Deere I can't even remember what model it was but used to have a unit that had tires this one has tracks I'd much rather have a track unit what we have here is the wood Max wood chipper this is a 9900 SS wood chipper as you can see this is a little hydraulic motor that hydraulic motor runs the feeder right here this is all made in the USA that's 9 in my 9 in I do believe and that will auto feed you've got pushed to stop it'll actually reverse itself so we're in neutral right now this is Go Go Daddy go as fast as it can go and we can adjust the speed by bumping this I'm just bumping that right there they can adjust the speed at which this thing feeds in a problem with a lot of wood chippers is you've got the old Chuck and duck in other words you just throw it in and it blasts it out the other side this is a little more safe and it has a lot more safety options than the other wood chipper stick around to the end and I'll show you the other wood chipper we have on the farm it's PTO driven so that's neutral means it's not feeding and that is reversed so if you were to get sucked into the chipper bam you just grab that that it reverses it and turns that wheel backwards it does not chip backwards it just reverses it so want to put that in neutral for what we're getting ready to do here this again is the MX 9900 SS from woodmax there is an adjuster right here so we can adjust our output for our shoot we simply push that handle down make that adjustment I ran two sticks through this beforehand just to make sure I knew how this thing operated because it is a brand new piece of equipment to me underneath here are some belts and lubrication type Parts can look down in there and see it's belt driven can also look from the operator station of the skid loader and tell that the belts are spinning this is our hour meter which tells us how much service we need and this is the 1200 RPM operating speed that we need to be at so this has a around a 220 lb I think it's going that way maybe going that way uh wheel in there with blades that run the chipper so one hydraulic motor runs that centrifugal force and that blade that's really really heavy there I think are two or three blades inside and then the other hydraulic motor runs the feed right here and you can see very very nice setup very well-built machine and it attaches to the skid loader via the hydraulic connections right here so there's one hydrolic connector there and one right there very cool as long as you have skid steer Ste quick attach I believe you could probably use this on a tractor but don't hold me to it I'll post a comment I'll pin a comment down below I'm not sure they do have PTO driven units I opted for the skid steer driven unit because this is a commercial machine and I really know that I can rely on it and I didn't want to do a three-point I know that I can hook to this in about 2 seconds versus putting it on a three-point hitch on the tractor with the PTO shaft in my mind this was safer this was smarter and this was better for our operation here on the Stony Ridge so let's go over and check out the chainsaws so we've got the tools of the trade that we're going to be using today don't pick on me not yet uh when I get done here I'm going to have to sharpen my chainsaw chain so I've got the ultimate chainsaw sharpener right here guys if you don't have one or more of these for your saws you are totally missing out we'll do a video completely dedicated to the steel chainsaw sharpener that thing is awesome don't buy the knockoff by the real deal by the steel okay this is our logox forestry multi-tool and we're going to be using a Timber Jack to keep our chain out of the dirt we also have some safety gear here uh little helmet hearing protection and the husqavarna 460 Rancher from Northern Tool and also the steel Ms 140c you guys might think this looks like a Fisher Price chainsaw but it's not I assure you it's been instrumental it's been awesome to tote around with me on the farm it's really light it's really portable and it's no gas so I just keep that battery on the charger all the time when I need the saw I'll pop it in and call it good the next thing I'm going to show you is this this is a husqavarna fuel tank right here it is mixed gas that goes into that side and bar oil that goes into this side and a chainsaw toolbox also very cool so it doubles or actually triples three different Tools in one I'll post a link to this this is my favorite by far chainsaw gas tank that I have ever seen and there are tons of different versions of this but husky got it right husk Ofna really got it right so let's fire up the 460 and we're going to cut up what can be used for firewood here and we're going to chip up what can't be used for firewood and we're going to show you just how awesome this wood chipper is we're going to hop on the skid loader this is planted firmly on the ground right here and what our goal is is to get to 1200 RPM on that RPM gauge okay the hour meter shows it has3 hours on it so let's fire up the Gale contact all right take our brake off now we've got to get this up to 1200 RPM but we don't want to start it at full RPM if we do we can damage the Hydraulics and we can also Dam damage the belt system so this engages the hydraulic system you'll hear it start to hum okay there's a trigger right here I'll pull that trigger and that'll keep it going we are currently at 990 up to 1,000 RPMs on the machine that doesn't matter but we're going to go ahead and turn it up okay as we turn that up we can also see down 12200 2300 RPM on the tractor 1200 RPM on the chipper now we got our machine running everything's good to go we're going to actually just use the electric chainsaw here for this job uh this is not a very big tree make sure we have our bar oil in our little steel MSA 140c all that stuff's pouring like jelly today man it was cold last night this is firewood and wood cutting season here for me on the Stony Ridge Farm here's the saw that's all the saw we're going to need for accomplishing this job now let's put our face shield on because we never know when we're working with chainsaws whether something will pop up and pop Us in the face [Music] you can see this machine is a beast you can slow down and or speed up the rate at which it takes wood into the chipper which is super important when you're running bigger stuff and this I think has a 9x9 shoot in other words it will take 9 in logs that is a very big log much much bigger than the other wood chipper we had so I've got a wood chipper it's called a Titan brand wood chipper and that was a PTO driven machine and it was inherently dangerous it's called I call it the Chuck and duck you Chuck it in and it just blast out the other side but what it also did was it broke shear pins all the time so anytime I put anything halfway big or halfway hard in that chipper it would just break a shear pin in other words the PTO shaft would stop and the chipper would stop and it would stop mid cut in other words the log would be jammed up inside the shoot which was not handy at all hope you guys are enjoying this video be sure you hit that like button subscribe to Channel I'd love to have you back here on the Stony Ridge with me [Music] oh all I can say is wow an absolutely amazing piece of equipment here super glad I bought it we're going to walk around I'm going to show you the chips that it put out you guys got to see it at work here literally this took me all of about 10 minutes this machine is really something that we're going to be utilizing to help build our pastures in other words we need carbon out in our soil and this is nothing but good carbon okay so that's soil building carbon you can see what kind of chips this thing puts out you know it's brand new uh and it's putting out tiny chips like this this is something that will actually be chipping up some White Oak and we'll be utilizing that in a smoker build that I'm getting ready to do too so we're actually going to be making our own wood chips for our own wood chip smoker that should be pretty cool so that's the wood Max the only real question that I have for this thing is uh or thought process that I have make sure your shoot is pointed away from the operator station in other words it could be pointed this way and when we get ready to ingra egress in and out of the skid loader here you don't want that pointed towards you with this running at all it takes it about a minute and a half maybe two minutes to idle all the way down once you turn it off I do suggest always pointing that away from you this is also important because we can utilize that to blow chips into the back of a truck in case we're in a place where we can't blow them out into the pasture or we're cutting up firewood or something like that we can always blow the chips into the back of the truck take that and dump it onto a bar spot on the farm takes those chips a few years to rot down and turn into soil and that soil is what we're building the farm with here on the Stony Ridge so that is the wood Max MX 9900 SS that's your first look at it we've got a lot of firewood content to come and I'm going to take this back in the woods I'm going to start building some trails with it in other words I'll pull forward I'll cut all the saplings off build some trail and Chip all the brush all the brush and debris well guys thanks so much for joining me again this is the wood Max 9900 SS wood shipper goes on the front of the skid steer it has skid steer quick attach uh linkage for the bucket it has skid steer attached flat face connectors to hook onto the skid steer and I'll post some specs down there in the video description there'll also be a link to Wood Max's website if you guys want to check one of these out for yourself very very nice machine super happy thanks guys we'll see you next time on the Stony Ridge woo come on down to the ston ridge bring your bring your kids we living life pure and sweet that's the way supposed to mey r w here in the Blue Ridge Mountains look at BIR here in the Blue brige Mountains raining day for our Uh Wood [Music] Max come on man get it together one more time you can do it this is all origin
