Start-to-Finish 3 day DIY Floating deck - BIG REVEAL!

What happens here

The ripped composite boards are used as fascia boards to sheath the exterior framing of the deck. Because the MoistureShield material is flexible, the boards are pushed up into place and held firmly while they are screwed down along the entire line. Additionally, in areas where old deck framing doesn't offer enough material for secure screw attachment, new pieces of wood are 'scabbed on' (attached) to the existing frame, providing a solid point for fastening the fascia.

Goal: Finish the deck's exterior by attaching fascia boards and reinforcing any weak framing areas.

Tools and materials

  • Deck Screws — Securing fascia boards
  • Wood Scabs — Reinforcing old framing for better screw attachment

overhang but we've still got another trim piece to add so we compensate the measurement to allow for enough of that and still leave an overhang my experience using this moisture shield is that it's definitely different than using wood but there is a reason why i prefer it and let me just show you what that is yeah they don't it doesn't rot right it just does not it doesn't make a difference what you do where you like let's look at it come here look at this stuff look at it this is the let's it's been buried in that for two years look at that it's freaking amazing but it's heavy so although it'll never rot on you it is this stuff is also cool to your feet so you guys know because you can get the cool tech whatever cool touch because sometimes it gets hot uh and it's also heavy and flexible so so there's some good stuff to it and some bad stuff to it you might as well know about it so this doesn't give us anything to screw to some of the old deck framing doesn't give us enough meat to screw into so we scab on pieces where needed
