What happens here

This video details the process of cleaning up a site, specifically demolishing and filling in an old swimming pool, and preparing the area for future use. It involves removing fencing, draining the pool, backfilling with soil, dealing with unsuitable soil conditions, cutting concrete, removing pool walls and footings, and general site cleanup using various heavy machinery and tools.

good evening you guys we're off on to a new adventure today and we're joined by gracie the african grey some of you guys probably know her as the squawk box in the background of a lot of my videos i think she's over 20 years old maybe 20 24 years she came to us as a rescue a long time ago and she became part of the family really fast [Music] all right we gotta take some of this fence down for our access looks like they're just some phillips and it'll be easy enough and it's gonna take it down like three sections i think it's starting to snow it's not really supposed to accumulate but the weather's saying it's supposed to go for the next two hours so this is a test for alex this is actually the first job of the year and it's his first solo project where he's in charge of all of the decisions and he's going to be really put to the test in just a few moments the project is we've got to fill this swimming pool in and turn it into a yard we got to fill the swimming pool in and turn it back into a yard no i don't feel it i don't feel anything so things start all good the soil he brings in nice clean structural feel exactly as we like and then something happens that occasionally comes up i don't know if i like this or not you guys cucumber spin drip i ordered it off from amazon and i could only get 36 of them and it cost me like 30 bucks but one of you guys said you gotta try the cucumber spin drift i don't know if i like it here it is so this is supposed to be structural fill and it looks a lot like black dirt but it is structural fill that's the color isn't the problem you're gonna see what the problem is in a minute and even though it's black it's a non-organic soil but it's too wet this last load of fill is not phil it's mud it's been raining up here for like a week you might have said that already and we got really lucky with those first couple of loads that it wasn't wet but yeah super saturated like i said so what we're going to do to alleviate that problem as we're bringing in another load of fill you know a little sandier stuff more of a binding agent in there and we're gonna mix it all together real well that'll take care of that all right so let's get technical this is the kind of soil coming out of the truck that we typically like to use and it's drawn from the same pile as the blacker stuff but sam said we're going to bring in sand which has a little bit more of a binding agent which is actually not correct sand doesn't have a binding agent the lack of the binding agent will help balance out the clay that's in the blacker soil so in a case like this we can take little bits of that darker soil and start to mix it in with our better soil to come up with something that's actually usable [Music] [Applause] [Music] i know i say this all the time but this is seriously probably one of my favorite tools that i have so some of you guys probably know i was a couple of videos ago i was complaining about losing my grease joint cleaner outer and the guys at mcfarland's which is the place that we got uh the kubota at saw that and sent us a new one this one's a lot nicer than the one that i had which is really really awesome of them i i've been holding off on buying one because i know as soon as i bought one i'm gonna find it but we got some stuff you gotta use that on so thanks guys so what that tool does that sam's been looking for is if you have a greaser that's plugged up you can put that tool on it and then punch it and it'll push the grease through dessert so that it's cleared up again and mcfarland's out of wisconsin where we got our kubota skid loader is where we got this one from so you can see we use compression compaction to make sure that we get everything real tight on our pool bottoms we get it up to this up to the bottom of the footing and then we start to remove the steel side walls and then we start to remove the concrete footing that's buried underneath there [Music] oh baby all right second pull we're gonna count that as a start god i love this stuff this saw hasn't been fired up in since last fall so sam was pretty excited that saw looks almost as big as sam [Music] what really makes the saw more effective is the blade and we switched over to the shocks blades a while ago i've never looked back they're an excellent excellent blade if you guys use one you know what i'm talking about all right we got alex burning up the rest of the dirt over there while he's working on that i'm gonna start getting this driveway cleaned up a little bit more gooder than it is right now we have one more of my more favorite tools makita power broom i will tell you what this thing saves so much time on cleaning up the streets and stuff like that so much time everything gets recycled you guys and it all gets sorted he's pulling everything out he's stacking in different piles look how thick the footing is that he all of these pools have this super thick footing down at the bottom and you got to remove that and that's part that a lot of guys miss but we bring up the pool bottom so that we can have a flat place to work so that we can then dig out those footings without rocking the skid loader back so we sort all of the concrete and you'll see that it all gets brought down and then it actually gets ground up to be reused as base material for future roads so none of this goes to waste even concrete oddly enough is a completely recyclable green material which is pretty cool i don't know if i like cucumber i only have 30 of them to go you'll notice he's very careful as he goes in he sets it down releases the jaws he just doesn't come over the top and drop that's how you puncture about a truck bottom pretty fast the way he's doing it is the right way in set down and release even big pieces let's watch this one go in sometimes the big pieces are easier to get in because you can touch the bottom right they don't they don't eat them they'll either get your phone or they'll hit their vehicles so what alex is doing now is pushing all of the tin and metal out of the way because that will be saved until the very end of the project and after he gets all of the stuff that gets removed sorted and separated then he'll fill the pool back up but before the black dirt goes down he'll haul everything out then bring the black dirt in to do a final dress final dressing on it but that video is going to be coming up right next so make sure that if you guys don't mind hitting that subscribe button um and you'll be able to see it coming out the very next video we'll show you how we wrap one of these up yeah if you guys want to see a little bit more from gracie the african gray just let me know come on god bless you guys go get em and we'll hopefully see you next time
