What happens here
Once the primer is completely dry, use an Ekasand 3X4 Sander, preferably connected to a dust extraction system, to lightly sand all flat surfaces of the mantel. The goal is to smooth out any imperfections, dust nibs, or unevenness from the primer coat. For detailed areas, corners, and edges, switch to an Ekasilk Ultra Fine Sanding Sponge to hand-sand and ensure a consistently smooth surface. Sand gently to avoid sanding through the primer layer.
Goal: Smooth out the primed surface and remove imperfections before applying the topcoat.
Tools and materials
- Dust Extractor/Vacuum — Collecting sanding dust directly from the sander, maintaining a cleaner environment
- Orbital Sander Ekasand 3X4 Sander — Efficiently smoothing the larger flat surfaces of the mantel
- Stepladder — Reaching higher sections of the mantel for comfortable sanding
- Sanding Discs/Pads — Providing the abrasive surface for the orbital sander
