Should we be using more screws? 🤔 #framing #carpentry #testing
What happens here
Similar to the previous step, a structural screw is partially driven into a piece of wood. The hydraulic jack and pressure gauge assembly are then positioned over the structural screw. The jack is operated, and the force applied to pull the structural screw out is measured on the gauge. This allows for a direct comparison of its pull-out strength against the deck screw.
Goal: Measure the pull-out strength of a structural screw.
Tools and materials
- Hydraulic Jack with Pressure Gauge — Measuring the pull-out force of the fasteners
- Metal Bracket — Securing the hydraulic jack to the fastener head
- Piece of Wood — The base material into which the fasteners are driven
- Structural Screw — The fastener being tested for pull-out strength
