Should we be using more screws? 🤔 #framing #carpentry #testing

What happens here

A nail is driven into the piece of wood. The hydraulic jack setup is once again used, positioning the metal bracket to pull on the nail head. The jack is operated, and the pressure gauge is monitored to record the maximum force before the nail is pulled out. The presenter's voiceover later indicates that nails did not even reach one ton of resistance, contrasting sharply with the screws.

Goal: Measure the pull-out strength of a nail.

Tools and materials

  • Hydraulic Jack with Pressure Gauge — Measuring the pull-out force of the fasteners
  • Metal Bracket — Securing the hydraulic jack to the fastener head
  • Piece of Wood — The base material into which the fasteners are driven
  • Nail — The fastener being tested for pull-out strength
