Sharpen a Lawnmower Blade (Coarse and Honing Grit)
At 7:50 in
Shave with a lawnmower blade! You’re gonna love this sharpener!
What happens here
Begin by cleaning any loose rust or debris from the lawnmower blade using a sanding sponge. This helps prevent contamination of the abrasive belts. Secure the lawnmower blade firmly in a vise. Next, remove the knife sharpening guide from the Work Sharp tool by simply lifting it off. Install the 80-grit (coarse) abrasive belt, ensuring it's centered. The Work Sharp tool has a button that, when pressed, allows the belt to turn outwards, which is ideal for larger tools like lawnmower blades. Using the high-speed setting, draw the sharpener along the cutting edge of the lawnmower blade, taking care to follow the existing angle. Sparks will fly as material is removed. Repeat this on both sides of the blade until a new edge is formed. Then, switch to the 6000-grit (honing) abrasive belt and make several light passes along both sides of the edge to polish and refine it. Perform a shave test on your arm to confirm the blade is razor-sharp.
Goal: Clean and secure a lawnmower blade, then sharpen it with a coarse-grit belt and hone it with a fine-grit belt to achieve a razor-sharp edge.
