Disappointed? Elon Musk.. STARLINK INTERNET after 3 WEEKS! It's a game changer!

hey there folks this is josh stoney ridge farmer welcome back to another beautiful sunny day here in the foothills of the blue ridge mountains on the stoney ridge farm this is a 150 acre first generation cattle farm operation that i've started up and i've started a youtube channel along with it with a youtube channel comes the need for internet and we've had really really slow internet so this is going to serve as about a three to four week review after using starlink internet and starlink internet is that elon musk satellite internet that's out there for you guys it's in the beta testing phase so it's becoming more and more available to everyone all over the country today we're going to give you a brief overview and i'll tell you how satisfied with it if i am satisfied or if i'm not satisfied it's going to be pretty cool and we'll talk to you a little bit about what you need to do in order to try and get starlink at your place all right [Music] all right guys i hope you enjoyed the little intro here we're on 150 acre first generation cattle farm chicken farm gonna be pig farms selling veggies all that stuff and we live in the rural foothills of the blue ridge mountains in north carolina i had only two options for internet i had satellite internet and centurylink internet now centurylink internet was super super slow my download speeds were about 3.6 megabytes per second i believe it's bytes not bits correct me if i'm wrong and my upload speeds were like .08 which is completely ridiculous totally slow and i produce social media content so if you're not following the youtube channel jump in follow the channel i'd love to have you back here what we're doing is trying to find an internet solution not like we're just going to say the names like hughes net with data caps with it just gets outrageously expensive so if we were going to do hughes net and i was uploading the quantity of content that i upload to youtube and facebook and all the various other social media outlets i'm a unique rural customer in other words i need faster internet so with 3.6 megabytes per second my tv would buffer if i was watching something a youtube video or if i was watching something on amazon prime or netflix or whatever i no longer have the buffering set up so what we've got is a starlink internet setup i'll post a link to starlink down there i'm not getting paid by these guys i just want you guys if you live in a rural area to have good internet we're actually going to do a real-time test i just did a test a few minutes ago and i got 120 mega i believe it's mega bits or megabytes megabytes per second i believe that is super fast compared to four we're going to go ahead and we're going to do another test we're going to refresh it and we're going to run another test right now just so you guys can see how fast this internet is now it's up and down that's the thing we are in the beta phase so i've got 92 megabytes per second starlink internet is not fully up and operational but it has become available in my area and i'll tell you exactly what you need to know so you'll go to the starlink website you can easily google it i'll post a link down the video description i'll pin a comment also what you do is you pay i believe a 99 or 100 up front that gets you on the list and when starlink becomes available you'll receive an email and your equipment will come your equipment's going to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 now i'd imagine as time goes on the cost of that equipment is going to kind of go down if you look at satellite tv like back in the day it cost you three four five hundred bucks to buy the satellites and stuff for satellite tv now it's free and free installation this was super super easy to install i will post a link right up here or wherever somewhere up there to the initial install of our starlink internet i set it up right down here in our front yard and when i set it up in the front yard i just wanted to see which way the dish would position itself as soon as i plugged it in it started finding a way the instructions are super simple your great grandma could do this it's super easy so for those of you who don't feel like they're very tech savvy this is something super easy that you can set up you can set it up temporarily super easy but eventually you're gonna have to drill a hole into your house if you're uncomfortable doing that i'd say hire a contractor or a satellite installer i've had a lot of people leave comments on the channel i need to be done by a professional satellite installer if you're that guy if you desire to have someone come and professionally install which is means professionally put four screws in and plug three wires in if you need somebody to do that you can hire somebody to do that but my recommendation is learn how to do it yourself there's tons of videos out here on the internet of how to install starlink internet including mine okay so we're testing right now it's going through the testing it's up and down and i've had some downtime there's 140 you know it's popping around it's all over everywhere 100 it'll give you the average right here so 110 megabytes per second uh upload speeds again i think it's bytes per second 16 16 megabytes per second and it just keeps on going up from there depending on the time of day and depending on the weather so have i had outages with starlink starlink is in the beta testing phase beta meaning it's not fully operational yes i've had outages it's no big deal if you're depending on the internet to be up one thousand percent of the time always up you can always turn your cell phone into a hot spot if it does go down so if you're doing zoom meetings and live interviews and stuff like that from home then yeah you might want to go ahead and have that as a backup i'll tell you this i canceled after two days i cancelled my mobile hotspot that i had with verizon i cancelled my tablet which i used for a mobile hotspot with verizon and i cancelled my other internet my centurylink internet i am completely and fully confident that starlink can meet my needs and i am a youtuber i utilize the internet for my livelihood to build the farm that's what i utilize every single day every minute of every hour of every day so would i recommend starlink and how has it been over the last three weeks to a month it's been absolutely fantastic it's been awesome if you've got slow rural internet it's the answer guys it's the answer that you've been looking for some people have had varied results my results have been super awesome here in north carolina and we're in north central north carolina about 10 minutes from the virginia border here i'm super duper happy i've gotten tons of emails asking about this so that's why i'm going over this i hope you guys enjoyed this little video please jump in pound that like button i can't say enough we're going to run a speed test one more time just to show you guys it's variable okay so the last one was 110. we're going to go ahead and run it again just so you guys can see the maximum i've had is 190. you can see it's down it's down just a little bit right now so we might be in the 80s see it jumping up jumping up jumping up so uh again we're looking at that's more than 25 times the speed that i had before with centurylink with the cell phone i get about 15 megabytes per second or megabits whichever one it is i don't know i'm not a computer guy when it comes to knowing your internet speed i just know that this thing is nearly 25 times faster starlink is fast starlink is working and i'm very very happy with it guys so there's your three to four week update on starlink internet this isn't my typical type of video to install again i'll post a link at the end of this video to the full install of starlink here at the house it immediately picked up a satellite within the first 10 minutes i was streaming unlimited data from a satellite and it's 99 bucks per month so 99 initial startup uh to get you on the list about 500 and and that's a big pill to swallow for some people it's a big pill to swallow for me about 500 for the equipment you own the equipment as soon as you plug it in and all you have to do is plug three plugs in and it's done it's set up i did order a rooftop mount and i'll be putting it on my roof but for now it's just sitting right out here in the front yard and it looks awesome it does great i just move it when i go to mow the yard and i've had no troubles guys really a hiccup here and there one time it was down for about a half an hour and starlink alerted me hey we're doing maintenance in your area we're working on the problem and then boom it was right back up and that happened to be on movie night which was no biggie because i just turned on my hot spot on my phone until starlink let me know that it was back up so cool guys i totally recommend starlink internet if you are in a rural area or if you're way way off the grid it's super super awesome i'm told that it'll work with rvs if you're going rving or if you're out on the ocean and you're using a boat i'm told it will also work now i don't know if it'll work in rough seas or anything like that but you guys will just have to try it if you can afford a sailboat i think you can afford to try starlink it really
