Sawmill Sunday: A day on the farm Milling North Carolina White Oak
What happens here
Using a cant hook, roll a log onto the sawmill bed. Position the log securely using the hydraulic clamps on the sawmill. Activate the debarker attachment, which removes a strip of bark from the log's cutting path. This prevents dulling the blade on dirt and debris embedded in the bark. Once debarked, engage the main sawmill blade and push the saw head through the log to make the first cut, creating a flat surface (slab). After the cut, use a hammer to gently tap the slab to loosen it from the log, then remove it and place it on a nearby flatbed truck.
Goal: Make the initial cut on the log to create a flat slab.
