Restoring an old axe
What happens here
The final step is to sharpen the axe blade. Use a Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener (an electric belt sander style sharpener). Start with a coarse grit belt (e.g., 80 grit) to establish the initial edge geometry. Then switch to a medium grit belt (e.g., 200 grit) to further refine the edge. Finish with a fine honing belt (e.g., 2000 grit) to achieve a razor-sharp edge. Test the sharpness by attempting to shave hair from your arm (carefully!) to confirm the blade's keenness.
Goal: Achieve a razor-sharp cutting edge on the axe.
