What happens here

With the old nail removed, use a power drill to drive a new 2-inch drywall screw into the same general area, or nearby if a stud was missed, ensuring it penetrates into a solid ceiling joist. Drive the screw until its head is slightly recessed below the surface of the drywall, but be careful not to break the paper face of the drywall, which could compromise its holding strength.
