hey folks that fix it guy here and today i want to show you the best plumbing tape you've never heard of right most people if you're not a plumber you haven't heard of this stuff this right here is what we call 10 mil tape this is pipe wrap tape it's a pvc pipe wrap tape it's a little bit thicker than electrical tape kind of feels like it has that same consistency and this stuff is used to help protect pipe that's buried in the ground or coming up through some concrete so i just want to talk to you a little bit about this and give you a couple uses that i like to use and that i just got done using it for so come along let's get to fixing [Music] [Applause] okay so i was just helping a friend install a yard hydrant at his house all right he has this insanely long driveway i mean it's crazy long and he was telling me about like connecting six hoses to water some plants up there or huffing five gallon buckets up and i'm like dude that is crazy i would not have done it probably everything up there would be dead um most things are dead in my yard anyway but whatever that's not what we're talking about right now okay we're talking about this tape so when i connected to his water service the fittings that i put in i wrapped them all right i didn't wrap the whole yard hydrant because it doesn't need that but i did wrap the copper on the bottom where i soldered on my pex connection i wrapped that as well the other thing that i wrapped was i put in some of these worm clams i put in three of these worm clamps and i'll show you right here if you have a worm clamp even if you're using um what kind of pipe is that poly pipe right if you're using poly pipe and you have worm clamps in the ground well this stuff is a great addition to just go ahead and give it a couple wraps and just keep those worm clamps dirt free it's going to make them so much easier to come off if you ever have to take it apart it's gonna make it so much easier so i usually do that too okay so i'm gonna do a little in office demo real quick as well i just want to get you guys up close and personal with this stuff if you guys like the content please subscribe to the channel click that like button give me some feedback give me some comments let me know if you've used this stuff if you hate it you love it um anything we're really just trying to help and i really hope that we're doing that all right you guys like my light setup like i've been using uh mabel's little toy bins to hold my light up because i can't do anything else man i need to find some kind of bendy light that actually will kind of hover over the area i'm working but anyway i wanted to demo this pipe wrap tape for you so this is the 10 mil it's by sure tape i'll put a link in the description box below right you can get the stuff on amazon if you're doing any kind of underground work this stuff works out really well it's just good plumbing tape that i really didn't think a lot of people knew about right so you're going to want to have a knife for this stuff because it is pretty thick it does not tear very easy so what i typically do is you know you just get it together get it started just get it on there and just kind of start stretching it out there and just you know just keep going down and you can see right you get up there you can see that like i'm just moving it along just get that sealed off it actually holds very well seals pretty good and you're good to rock and roll when i put a pipe clamp on right you got a pipe clamp on there for the sake of this i might want to actually put it on there real quick give me a sec so you guys know how worm clamps are sometimes how if you get any dirt or debris in there sometimes they're really they just it's a bear to take this off or put it on right and so these things are very nice especially if you put these in the dirt right so around here they do a lot of poly pipe with barb fittings and they use these worm clamps to put it together it's crazy to me that they will have water services with 140 psi or more on them and they're putting worm clamps to hold them together crazy to me but it's what they do man and whatever right so if i'm going to put a worm clamp like this in the ground i will always take some 10 mil afterwards and i just wrap it and it's so nice to really it's so nice to be able to just hook this up afterwards right so to be able to get into this after is awesome and you know you just get it all hooked up you just want it covered up that's it we're gonna have to have a knife all right so when that's like that right then nothing's going to get in there and it's going to be awesome because if you ever need to get in that well then cut it open or just re-unwrap it because it's a lot easier that way and that you have a nice clean surface to work with right you're able to unscrew that change it out do what you need to do like this particular tape works very well for a lot of situations like this if you live in a state that has some super acidic soil like nevada arizona some of those lower states the the soil is really acidic and it will eat your copper pipe up all right so if you don't have uh if you try to put a rigid copper pipe or rigid fittings in the ground well you're going to have to wrap them with this because it's going to eat alive gas pipe if you don't have coated gas pipe and you try to put it in that soil down in those states it's going to eat alive it will rust it out so fast you have to at least have like a 40 ml thickness they want you to put like four wraps on this stuff i feel like back when i was there it wasn't for wraps i really think it was two i think it was 20 mil we still the company i worked for they still always bought 10 but they said always make sure you put two wraps and i feel like these days everything's 40 40 mil so pretty wild i haven't done stuff like that in a while um i haven't really seen too many um black iron gas pipes around here being installed in ground everything usually seems to be random plastic these days so i don't know i just wanted to show you guys what i did with this i have the video of the yard hydrant it's going to be coming out soon but if you're doing any kind of work in ground with plumbing this is good stuff to have right like it really does work out well and i'm not kidding about the worm clam situation really if you're using one of these put a couple wraps of this around it afterwards and if you ever have to dig it up to replace something or repair something you'll thank me for it so this is a plumbing tape that i know most people have never thought of right i scoured youtube and i found one video right so i know a lot of people don't talk about this stuff but it really does come in handy if you need it i really hope this video helps if you could please subscribe to the channel click the like button it would be greatly appreciated my family and i were just trying to help out and we hope that we're doing that thank you very much and we'll see you again real soon
