(13,031 characters)hey folks that fix it guy here and today we're installing yard hydrant this is a woodford y34 two foot berry yard hydrant do yourself a favor if you're going to install the yard hydrant in your yard make sure that it's quality all right this is quality here in washington we have an 18 inch frost line so a two foot berry is gonna be more than plenty so you can see i've already had my friend dig out the hole which because i don't really like digging anymore i'm not really a fan of digging i say you know what i'll help you out with this but you gotta dig it so he looked that up we're gonna go ahead and i'm gonna show you what we're gonna do next when making sure your yard hydrate is secure you don't want it wobbling right people do this of various ways right i usually attach it with a metal t post i know some people concrete it some people use four by fours like you could use a piece of treated wood some people don't use anything they just saturate the ground get it muddy come back the next day and it's kind of in place so to put that t-post in we're gonna have to do a little manual labor this right here is a post driver boom boom boom it's gonna be a little bit of work so come along let's get to fixing [Music] do yourself a favor and put some earplugs in okay well that's in there as far as it's gonna go okay so the next thing we're gonna do is we're gonna go to the water meter we're gonna grab our meter key and we're gonna shut this off and just righty tighty all the way until it's off okay and now we're gonna have to cut some pipe right here we want to get down the wall the length is right here so we need to go 18 inches down lower and that's gonna it's going to be plenty being right down in here and so we just need to find a flat spot where we can install our tee so this right here looks pretty flat if you guys like this content please subscribe to the channel click that like button i'm just trying to help and just show you guys how to do you know things around your house or helping people out any little thing like that this job is not that hard and you could totally do it we got some water so now we'll just let the pressure bleed off i guess we're pretty lucky that when i unscrewed this it didn't blow off and start getting us a little wet let's let that roll let's take this gasket keep it somewhere let's keep this gasket somewhere safe we don't want to lose that just set it right inside that meter box for right now that ain't going anywhere we don't want to lose that so then the next thing we're going to do is we're going to take a little bit off of this pipe so here's the deal i forgot my tape measure at home so it's a good thing that i just always have my leatherman right so we're gonna go from right there to right there it's about an inch and a half gap right here and that's what we need to take off of this pipe right here okay so now we've got it cut where we want it let's see if this bad puppy goes on there a little bit egg-shaped that's okay we got something for that i was planning on doing a separate video on this at some point too just to show you like cool copper tricks right is if you have an egg shaped pipe and you're looking to get it rounded again you just and keep working it back and forth until you you've got to where it'll spin the whole way around right and once you do that there's a very good chance that it's gonna fit pretty awesome huh now we're just gonna have to get right here awesome that's gonna slide on there like a gem yep and good to rock and roll and now all right you want to shine this up nice and pretty i don't have a one inch fitting brush but this three quarter inch if i just scrub it it'll work put on my old trusty jersey gloves and we're going to finish out the rest of this copper real quick so this right here is a brass street 90. it's female by male that's why they call it a street and this street 90 actually is going to screw into the bottom of the yard hydrant and then i'm going to connect it to pex that way i have a little more movability we'll say with the pipe so i'm just going to chop this off we're going to make a close coupling and i am going to put a pex adapter this is a pex adapter for type apex which is expandable kind so green both sides of that let's get all those burrs out of there just gonna clean and clean and clean and clean and clean and clean some more first thing i like to do let's just see if i can get any water out of this thing so i got some old oxygen tube here and i just like to make sure no water i just don't want to have any kind of water that's going to mess up my solder we're just going to let this set right like this that way i know it's going to go together right there it's going to stay right there we're going to get some extra flux off of there this is a time when i get nervous because i really need all this to go back together and work out good okay times like this call for some safety glasses a new can of map gas and a brand new thing of solder oh no you don't sometimes you got to do what you got to do right so i just braced that with my meter key and we start looking that looks good let's let that cool down a little bit and then we'll figure out what's going on with the other so we'll just lay this on the gravel right there that way we don't catch anything on fire only a couple pieces of burnt grass on there it's starting to get a little late i'm starting to get a little tired what i did was i actually just thread this male adapter into this female adapter and then threaded this male adapter right here into this female adapter i use some teflon tape three or four wraps i use some mega lock thread pipe sealant pipe dope kevlar woven put a little bit on there and tighten her up so we're just about to the completely tight process here just a little bit more turn and we'll be good to go this little weep hole right here this is for the frost free portion of your yard hydrant right so whenever you shut this off all the water is going to drain out of this we're going to put a bunch of gravel down in the bottom that way it actually drains pretty good okay so you see right here you take this collar you put this right over the end of the pipe make sure it's flush okay and then pop that bad boy right on there i like to hold for a couple seconds just to make sure that it compresses on there okay so now we're going to hook this side up all we're going to do is we're going to get a measurement if we get this put to right here right where we want it to go and then we just take this pex down here i've got a good little place to cut it right there and we've got a good shop get the excess out of our way i'll be doing a video about pecks and pex rings in the near future ayan you can see this and it just kind of moves every time just a little bit and just allows you to expand that out and then once it shrinks back down onto the fitting never come off that's good hooked up right there oh that's gonna be a bear okay so you kind of got to do this in somewhat of a timely fashion you can do this as many times as you like it just needs to be done in somewhat of a timely fashion so that's going to be good to rock and roll just let that sit right there for a minute we'll grab a couple wire ties i'm just going to grab one galvanized clip for right now so that's hooked up and now that's hooked up and i'm just gonna grab one galvanized clip for right now i'm gonna grab two galvanized clips right now because one ain't gonna work so as far as temporary goes right now this is temporary i don't think that's coming off there tonight and so we'll be good and hooked up there okay so now we're gonna go ahead so now we're going to go ahead we're going to open this up a little bit and we're going to slowly open the meter we'll get some water going in here okay so before we do anything else we want to put this washer back in and put the meter back together right because that would have been a little disastrous this pace had been about to blow we already had it started so we know it's going to go back together solder's going to be good it's already started okay we're starting to get it tighten a little bit let's do ourselves a favor grab the crescent wrench and we'll use this as a backup so that way we don't really move the meter so now we'll just grab the meter key and we'll just crack it just a little bit we've got a little bit of water going through you can kind of hear it and now we're starting to get a little bit of water out of the hydrant let's close that down and check for leaks okay i am really excited this worked out perfect the first time there are no leaks on any of the solder joints any of the pecs awesome all right so we're back for day number two i probably could have finished up last night but we were running out of daylight and i really wanted to see how the kids day went i wanted to tuck them in make sure everything was good so come along let's get to finishing i couldn't find the straight galvanized wire that i wanted so i just ended up grabbing some of these stainless steel hose clamps i'm just going to put three of these down there secure it where i want them and we're not going to have an issue i'm gonna put this in you guys have seen this before this is my ratcheting no hub gun pop this on there screw it down pretty awesome so i had to switch i had to switch camera angles here because you guys were staring directly at my plumber's crack and like my wife says nobody wants to see that then we're just going to take this we're going to get this leveled up where we want it before we tighten it here just a little bit more that way oh yeah we're in bubble babe and so now we're just going to add a couple more of these pipe clamps to this need wow somebody's got a lot of dogs and they're going crazy right now wow oh wow hasn't rained around here in a while it's dry dry dirt it's not like going home with plumes of dirt in your mouth and your nose and it's great okay finally get some ratcheting going on here now that's all put in place so then we're just going to take some 10 mil tape and i'm just going to wrap these they probably don't need wrapped but i just want to get them wrapped in anything to kind of keep things from going bad i'm going to be about it we'll do those other ones we're also going to do this little section of pipe right here the ground is not that acidic like it is in some other areas like arizona nevada ground is very acidic and it'll eat this scheduled l pipe it'll destroy it so you just put some tin mill around it and that helps as a barrier so it doesn't eat away so the ground doesn't actually erode your copper out faster than it needs to type k it's kind of made for this situation rot copper rot brass like those cast metals they're kind of made for this kind of thing this is actually not made for the ground it definitely works at applications here because the ground is not that acidic like everybody i talked to said oh you don't need to do that but i like to go the extra step a lot of times you'll do this stuff whenever you're going through walls or whatever and i'm actually going to shoot a video on this um just because this is good stuff to know about right this is a this is definitely a a new construction tool of the trade right here you could end up using a lot of this stuff this is a 10 inch circular concrete form and i'm just going to put this in there to kind of keep my gravel in one place right so i'm going to take about a foot of this and i'm going to just cut it out and that's so bad so then we'll just take this take the bottom of this and i'll just go with where the dip is like there's a little bit of dip right there and i'm just going to cut a notch out for where the pipe goes so because we can't slide this in place i'm actually gonna go ahead and cut it unfortunately i ended up getting this because lowe's was out of buckets like a hundred percent sold out of every bucket i don't know why that is if you guys know why that is please let me know because it's crazy and so we'll just take this like i said slice it down the back side so we're back right there and then we'll just kick some dirt in around it i actually got only about a half a bag of gravel from the lows because this is all they had was a half a bag and big shout out to the cashier i won't say her name but she was awesome she's a navy veteran and she totally hooked me up [Music] okay folks so the yard hydrants hooked up my friend said he's gonna end up doing the rest of the back filling which is awesome in my book because i don't really like to dig or shovel back right but you do what you gotta do i really hope that this video helped it's not a hard job there is a couple steps to it some things that you want to remember and things that you want to do but really overall it didn't take that long if you could please subscribe to the channel click the like button it would be greatly appreciated thank you very much and we'll see you again real soon
