PAVER PATIO BASE PREP - Open Graded Base Installation

What happens here

After the initial gravel layer is compacted, roll out a layer of geogrid over the entire patio area. Geogrid is a polymeric material that improves the structural integrity of the base by interlocking with the gravel, preventing lateral movement and distributing loads more effectively. Once the geogrid is laid, spread another layer of 3/4 inch clean stone on top of it.

Goal: Enhance base stability and load distribution.

Tools and materials

  • Rake — Spreading the gravel over the geogrid
  • Skid Steer Toro Dingo — Moving and spreading the second gravel layer
  • 3/4 Inch Clean Stone — Second layer of base material on top of geogrid
  • Geogrid — Stabilizing the gravel base and preventing shifting
