What happens here
This project details the comprehensive process of preparing the base for a new hardscape patio. It involves marking the area, excavating the soil, amending soft soil with Type S mortar, compacting the ground, laying a base layer of 3/4 inch clean stone, installing geogrid for stability, and precisely leveling and compacting the base materials to create a durable foundation for the pavers and surrounding garden beds.

(7,179 characters)[Music] all right so spraying out our outer dimensions of our Hardscape here and now we're going to to start Excavating number one thing you want your uh excavation to be about a foot bigger than your actual patio we want plenty of Base material there to support our Edge so we can do our concrete Edge restraint and we're not going to have any slip in there [Music] all right uh what do we got we got a couple more inches to go there couple more inches out here or we're good couple more inches here we're good out here good out there okay couple more inches here this needs to be fine tuned a little bit and a couple there a bunch of and a bunch of cleanup a lot of clean up yeah a lot of clean up it's pretty messy it's very messy all right well more excavation then we'll need to move the van we got uh what 15 Tons coming 15 Tons of 3/4 clean Roger [Music] this right here is why you're going to see some soil amendments it's soft soft right here especially woo little toasty work good job Jose that was close that was going to be in a really tough spot to uh pull out too cuz really wasn't like a good it's close to the driveway we can hook a toe strap to it pull the truck away that would have been tough hitting the deck but hey we made it happen it's all that matters need some serious soil amendment [Music] woo all right almost there this is just going to be some garden beds we've got a small retaining wall in this corner just because one of the most important things to me in a design is that all your beds are nice and level so you know we don't have a crazy you know slope on this corner but we want all the plants to be nice and level so always with edging or with a small retaining wall whatever you got to do make sure those beds are nice and level it's going to look [Music] awesome [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] yeah [Music] what we got here is Type S mortar that we've amended the soil with here Portland cement and lime are the two ingredients that you're going to want basically what that's going to do is amend the chemical composition of the soil got a little bit of clay here it's a little wet so the lime is going to change that chemical composition and then the Portland's going to help dry it out so did that dumped it all out drove the machine around a bunch now raking it out and now we'll just compact this thing like crazy till we got a nice solid surface and uh we should be good to go so got the compactor here all right I'll run this you guys want to take turns this uh raking in front of me make sure it's kind of smoothed out there pretty good right where is uh are all the other R and shovels in the green [Music] n [Music] he so we need need one right here the middle right here in the middle and then towards the outside [Music] [Applause] [Music] woo so we've got some 3/4 clean Stone compacted into our base and then we've laid down some geogrid after uh couple inches of that 3/4 now we're finishing it off getting it to our final elevation and uh we'll compact the heck out of this and then we'll be ready for our 38 chipstone and uh get our setting bed in so lot of stone we got 38 tons that's 76,000 lb woo that's a lot cuz it's cold and it warms you up get blood this body's a furnace CrossFit I'm trying not to get too you know I'm just do this to better my health you [Music] what what [Music] my mom lost her she like took off her wedding ring and her engagement ring at the beach for some reason and lost them and they were looking for them for like hours and then somebody came up who happened to have a metal detector and he was able to find them pretty cool what's that there so needs just a tiny bit more like another inch okay but I think maybe that's possibly good for now well you know what yeah let's just do one more here right in the corner we'll spread it out there I'll compact it don't find two once the wall block gets [Music] here what there so much fat what are you what are you doing me filling that up immediately going against the plan what do you mean going against the plan you said we're just moving this around here well to there too what do you me I mean getting it in the fur the reer of the garden bed know like you're having a bad day so I don't want to pick on you too much what you say feel like you're having a bad day I don't want to pick on you too much freaking grease gun man does anybody know how to use a grease gun these freaking things they never work right you get it going and then it's like you squeeze in the trigger it's not it's not greasing nothing I got to get one of those power ones I think it's ridiculous it's insane I've been using them for like 10 years never figured out the operation of it seamlessly it's really getting to you it is you see how hard I threw it on the ground I didn't I had like power bom it I was so pissed it's so annoying I just don't understand did it fix it though cuz I has fixed the compact or the compressor compressor didn't I'm still pissed off for them to tell me if I pass for charity care oh yeah they they were like we'll tell you we'll be ready to tell you at the 24th of February they didn't even reach out or nothing now they're calling me like you got to call here we've got almost all of our 3/4 clean Stone installed so now we're going around with the laser and we're just checking our elevations so we have one straight line coming right across here all the same level and it's going to pitch that way and we're going to pitch up here a little bit so just getting that reference point first making sure we're all good and then we'll get our [Music] at the seam put it like right next to the like right here how far down uh just so it's real solid what it's going to keep going there you go that's good all right off of here we want to set a string line it's - 7 and 3/4 off of the step and then - 10 and 3/4 off of the step and you can use that string line that one's also going to be set at - 7 and 7 and 3/4 and then you can run string line and use that to check um and this side will be 3 in below that so off the top of the step make a mark on that 7 3/4 right 7 and 3/4 10 10 and 3/4 and then that way you can use that as kind of a guide and our our base will be 3 in below that that line 7 and 3/4 all right do pin all the way down there yep all right little more back above went down in negative a [Music] half I should have just left it at one there we go and s in the stone right there zero all right let me get okay that type check how much uh what the line puts up that pin maybe inch and a half something like that this to there no no no just put it how much is maybe in and a half from here to here yeah it is an inch and [Music] looking good that side needs to go down a tiny bit a little bit more tiny bit more one more hit one more hit beautiful Perfect all right we got our base in we're ready to start doing this small garden retaining wall and and all of our pavers we have a super cool design that's going to go down here but you're going to have to wait for the next video for us to get into laying all the pavers so make sure you hit subscribe stay tuned and until next time this has been Premier outdoor
