What happens here
With the project planned, the next step is to remove the existing concrete walkway and courtyard. This typically involves breaking up the concrete using a sledgehammer or jackhammer, depending on its thickness and size. Once broken into manageable pieces, load the concrete debris into a wheelbarrow and transport it to a designated disposal area. After concrete removal, excavate the area to the required depth, which should accommodate the sub-base, base layer, bedding sand, and the thickness of the pavers themselves. For the drainage system, ensure the trench for the drainage pipe is dug with a consistent downward slope (pitch) from the central drain to the final discharge point, such as a daylighting outlet in the yard.
Goal: Clear the area of old concrete and excavate to the correct depth for new pavers and drainage.
