LSXcalade Returns: Late Model Engines Tears Down The 427 & Explains EVERYTHING (LSX Engine Tech!)

What happens here

The next step is to remove the oil pan from the bottom of the engine block. This is done after the engine is securely mounted on the stand. Once removed, the oil pan is carefully inspected for any metal debris, bearing material, or other foreign contaminants, which could indicate internal engine damage or wear. The mechanic uses a flashlight to thoroughly check all corners and surfaces of the pan. This step is critical for diagnosing potential issues like oil starvation or bearing failure.

Goal: Examine the oil pan for signs of internal engine wear or damage.

Tools and materials

  • Flashlight — To illuminate the inside of the oil pan for detailed inspection
  • Impact Driver — To remove the oil pan bolts quickly
  • Oil Pan — The component being removed and inspected
  • Shop Rag — To wipe down surfaces and clean the oil pan

i like it you couldn't help but notice there's a is there a reason you're doing all this by hand instead of just buzzing it off with an impact yeah because you don't want to basically strip the bolt out you know you gotta if you're using a six point on the six point it might be a little safer but you want to do it by hand first and then basically strip it out our back it out with an impact later so you just do that for precaution when you're tearing one down you always do it by hand yeah that's cool how do the lifters look what do you think man they look alright yeah they're looking at normal wear on them they look completely normal so we can reuse those um well that's something we'll decide i mean you know once we get to the assembly part of it they do look removable okay let's that's promising is there anything scary in there that's what we're about to find out so hopefully not maybe some rtv some orange paint from my garage floor that got in there somehow no bearing material or any type of material in here so so we're good yeah no damage that's the relief
