LSA Swap 1972 Monte Carlo: Tried Going to Dyno..What Happened? (Bonus Kasey Kahne Race Shop Tour!)

i'm thinking great it's probably a wire cut or something so we pull off here all right we're gonna make the pilgrimage to the dyno i haven't driven this car since we did the fan thing just in case it doesn't work i uh i brought some wire some tape some wire cutters wire strippers that way if for some reason it melts a relay you just hot wire this thing right to the battery and get her home but i'm confident it's going to work yeah there's no cup holders in here and there's also no 12 volt for phone chargers so uh we use one of these steels for now we'll get there we'll add creature comforts how far did we make it logan um i'm pretty sure you pushed it to this point yeah as soon as you turned it on it it just smoked the fan fuse see i ran it has two fan outputs uh and i ran them both to the high speed of this fan so they could like share the load well i guess they don't kick on or send a signal at exactly the same time and it just it popped the 30 amp fan one fuse instantly and i don't have any relays on hand that could even do this so we're just taking 10 gauge wire straight to the freaking battery hardwiring at low speed because this fan is so big the radiator is so big we got a fully enclosed shroud now low speed should be fine as long as we stay moving i can't imagine it would be any worse than the old fans yeah there's no way yeah i mean think of the original fan that was on there yeah that you had before and that that did the same thing that kept it cool until you were stopped for too long i'm gonna get stunned by a freaking bee it's behind you still go this way the camera's still on [Laughter] i know i know don't run from the bee don't swat at it it'll come back no the lawyer will come back no matter what you do it sure seems like it let's uh let's go on the probably a wire cut or something so we pull off here to like you know check the wire so i shut the car off whatever check it everything seems fine i think oh well i don't know what's on the battery we hook it back up see if it goes away won't start long story short we're stuck here i'm pissed i'm tired of this car it's done nothing but bend me over for seven years i have to call somebody get a jump probably aaron i'm about this close to putting this car on ebay yeah i if someone came to me with a lot of money and it was enough of it it would be gone i'm tired of this car it's not fun and it does this to me consistently over my whole life one thing has remained the same this car has disappointed me time and time again i was just sitting here i called like the one guy that i thought would have dyno which i don't even know if i want to go now so ironically i wrecked my car the other day so this car sits in the garage this car is big turbo big ejectors big fuel pump it makes like 600 horsepower and i have to daily drive it again and this thing is the biggest pain to drive and now it's saving the day usually well that's pretty cool is that your instagram on there yep cody the man go tell him we said thanks i could tell the fan picked up as soon as he did that like it i must have just had enough battery just to leave the garage with a half dead battery okay let's see [Music] whatever it is right now well if we're gonna have a problem we're not gonna leave this open-ended so let's get under here and figure out if we can find any broken wires so i just unplugged this it wasn't already like that but i don't you know nothing seems to be a problem here but it's possible that something could be cut you know way up in here somewhere i just want this freaking transmission gone i want a stick manuals don't do crap like this no i want to i want to get rid of this stupid transmission what are you doing right now oh yeah we got all these new shirts here we got special with this car finally able to dive into this thing try to figure out what's going on with it i read that 158 miles an hour is the default value that will come up whenever the ecu has no communication with the transmission whatsoever and that's what's coming up on here so that means well if i read somewhere that someone said their ignition wire wasn't hooked up so that's why it was reading that so i just tested mine and it it has power whenever i turn the key so that's not that's not it there's there's something wrong with the tcm or there's something wrong with the wires going to the transmission i don't know i'm going to pick the car the rest of the way and kind of unclip that loom get it dangled down and see if i can find any visible damage if i can't find any visible damage the next logical thing to do would be to like ohm test or continuity test the wires but i'm not really well equipped to do that so i'll just throw one of the other 6l80s push it under the car and plug it into there and see if it still does 180 miles an hour 150 158 if it still says that then i can conclude that the issue is in the wiring somewhere and i can dive in and figure all that out instead of uh you know if it goes away then i know it's in the valve body with the valve body tcm stuff and we could swap it over from one of the other junk transmissions well the old last blown up one i know that one got proper signal so we got that plugged in let's see what this thing does yeah i have hp tuners too but this thing will tell me the same thing if it says 158 on here it's going to say 150 on hp tuners too and i don't have to take my laptop out and uh all that stuff sounds like we got ourselves a wiring issue so i just did a test if i unplug the transmission everything goes away see it says that that's weird so it's doing something it's completing some kind of can bus circuit in there i don't know exactly what but we're gonna have to dive into the loom and figure out why it's why it's doing that well the replacing fuses didn't do anything the transmission on the floor didn't change anything it's got to be in the wiring i pull it up through here if i take out the other o2 sensor connector plug we can take the whole thing and flop it up up in here and have all kinds of room to work with this is a factory harness that's been thinned out to be standalone so in a factory 2009 truck like this came from the transmission can bus wires did not go right to the computer they went to the body control module and all this other stuff for the you know the speedometer that you know so it won't start in park all like or start and drive whatever all that stuff it's all inner loop connected so when they thinned out this harness they would have to cut things and splice them together to get them to connect right to the bcm i suspect this is my prediction somewhere in there there's a solder joint or a butt connector that has come apart and we can't see it because it's got fresh clean loom over it so there's no visual signs of breakage or anything like that that's my prediction let's see how it works out you ready to tear this apart you gonna pack some shirts staplesonautoworks.com keep her busy well pulled the whole loom back and looked at all this and you can see here where they kind of added things there's two spots but this one this is the one i fixed what i'm getting to right now that is one of the high speed uh can bus wires whatever i found it was sliced a little bit and had a couple broken strands oh you can see that there's i don't know three broken strands in there and i think there's only like six or seven in the whole wire well that might have something to do with it because jeff heinz told me that if it's one of those can bus wires and it's got a couple broken strands in it that could affect the resistance and everything of the whole can bus nonsense so cut the broken piece out and fixed it and i'm going to throw the thing back um under the car i'm plugging in the transmission and see what it does i hope this worked do you think it's gonna work i say yes but the monte carlo so i don't know yeah we're going to go with that i just can't wait to get a stick in this thing this is one less thing to worry about the whole thing needs to go back to back to bones with a freaking carburetor and a stick shift i messed up should have kept that but i sold the big block the blowing up big block and all that stuff to buy turbo stuff for the escalade so you know circle of life i guess don't hurt yourself cool hoodie i think it's my favorite do you see titties is it gonna work i'm not confident i'm just not picture like in my head right now it's like elmo staring into the sun with like the horrible flashbacks that's me when i'm staring at this car i'm just thinking all the times it has taken my heart torn it out and left it on the side of the road with me attached to it yeah okay let's turn the key fire up the old game boy here this is like the original edge cts monitor now they have like a v4 or something i got this used from somebody like five years ago when it was old when i bought it oh well still says 158 so we have accomplished nothing cool but is it different like is it like a different story if you like actually start the car possibly i don't think so we could always try try to start the car that didn't change anything nothing changed anything kind of messed around with the rest of the day i don't have the right pin tool thing to really get in and ohm test like the pcm connector nor do i have the electronic wherewithal to like really figure that out i kind of need guidance through those kinds of things still still still learning about that this car i guess is going to have to go on a trailer to the new shop that's right we are moving to a bigger shop already more information coming on that soon but it's like over twice the size of the one right now really freaking cool so stay tuned for says underbase and then it moves over here where it cures the underbase oh you can feel the heat coming off of that one here's the cool one we got some freaking tear your eyes out day glow for these shirts i'm pumped about that color they're printing that they're training the day glow i want to touch it do you want to touch it [Music] i know i'm not going to but i want to it looks really good and then broke the camera that's really cool how squeaky's it off and then the back squeegee puts like a perfect layer back down again this thing looks pretty heavy-duty yeah it's pretty heavy-duty they
