What happens here
To create the decorative columns, the wall needs to be built out to a specific depth. The initial attempt involves screwing two 2x4 (1.5 inches thick each) pieces together, which results in a 3-inch depth. These are fastened to the existing wall at strategic points. This depth is incorrect for the planned 3.5-inch column face board with half-inch sheathing. The mistake is identified, and additional 2x4s are added to increase the build-out, making it 3 inches from the wall, allowing for a 0.5-inch finished column material to sit flush, resulting in a total 3.5-inch column reveal. The 2x4s are cut using a circular saw and fastened with a cordless drill.
Goal: Achieve the correct wall depth for decorative columns.
