What happens here

This video details the process of installing composite deck boards as exterior cladding, with a specific focus on properly integrating metal drip edge flashing above windows to ensure effective water runoff management within a rain screen system. The process involves preparing the wall, installing vertical battens, cutting composite boards, and precisely fabricating and applying metal flashing and tape around window openings.

what's going on everybody welcome back to the Vlog we have a very special one today pool company is here putting in the steel wall pool we also have a bunch of details going on inside and outside of this Edition so make sure you hit subscribe stay tuned [Music] good you want to explain if you did [Music] we put a window where the more was a [Music] wall I don't really know what to say these windows were a last minute addition once we had this wall sheet they decided you know what let's open this up just so that if kids are playing over here we can see them had to find some instock windows we got some and we got them in the opening all we had to do was just double up our framing here we have our Jack stud we did a 2x12 header here and uh two windows nice client's very happy and we're moving right [Music] along you can see we're installing some baffling into our rafter base and let me show you what that is going to do we'll have a vented sopit on the outside so the air can come in and then this gets stapled up to the bottom of our sheathing and this is going to be a passageway for air to go through and Escape through our ridge vent and we're not going to have a buildup of moisture due to the different temperatures inside and outside so um super simple little step here but you want to make sure that you put these in before instulation if you're going to have a climate controlled space so we got all our baffles up and uh we just passed our framing inspection now we're almost done with the really boring stuff the insulation uh but they got to still work on that we're on to some exciting stuff Katherine you ready yep you got your uh shorter RS on I got my shorters shorter rolls on you got your belt on I got my belt on you ready to rock yep all right let's go all right so we're going to start on this exterior facade and we're using the decorator's Voyage deck boards as cladding here so we also have their mineral based composite sleeper system we've got one of them up here and what we're doing is we're going to use these as vertical battens so that our decking stands off of the wall about an inch and a half and all we need to do is put these every 16 in we'll line these up with our interior studs so that it's a nice secure connection locked in for justice it's going to be nice all right sh [Music] n [Music] hey Catherine yeah if you're going to work so quickly you got to remember to move the camera angle sorry all right so we have our sleepers up on the wall our batens and now we're going to start installing Our Deck board so we're starting at the bottom what we did was just measure 5 1/2 in up off of our slab snap the chalk line we've got that right here it's pretty faint but uh we're just going to watch that as we put the first board up and then we we can just go from there we stuck our battens on either side of the window away exactly an inch and a qu so that once we get to it we can cut all of our deck boards right to the edge of this there will be some window casing around it and then an extension Jam that'll cover up this and the side of our deckboard and then we'll still have a tiny little Gap against the terminal window so um it's going to be pretty cool let's get to it k you ready [Music] up okay right now let's go to tr [Music] throw a screw in the middle of that that one and that in they're going to get hit what you doing grab the board Happ I feel like I'm in the middle of my pling pars leave us alone you know what we're doing [Music] all right I got a good tip for you here we're installing these decorators boards as cladding for this wall both sides are going to have trim over the seam so the cuts don't have to be exact but they have to be right around 1392 so I need eight of those I measured 1392 I made sure that that end they're all nice and straight so what I'm going to do set the depth of your saw all the way through I just cut through three of them and that gives me my mark for my fourth I can just continue get all eight of them cut in no all right so we we are using these decorators boards as cladding it's a little bit of an untraditional way of siding a house so I'm going to show you how I went about with a drip edge flashing for on top of our windows so the first thing I do I'm going to show you some bends I like to do for the corner to start so that detail is going to go like that so that first Bend bends back and then overlaps then I'll come over here and Mark where my end is add 3/4 to that that's it the tar paper will go on top and then I'll have two pieces of flashing tape right over these Corners so now when water Gets behind our cladding it'll hit the drip edge and stay in front of the window always think like water flashed in for justice all right so the pool guys are making some progress on this pool here you can see what they did was pour a footer all the way around it that's going to keep everything intact and then these pillars around the outside they're all full of concrete that's connected to the footing so this thing's locked in for justice moving right along now that Tony's got this top flash we can continue with our wall cladding and we'll be getting all of these exterior details finished up in the next video so make sure you hit subscribe stay tuned and until next time this is Premiere outdoor living
