Lay the old disposal on its side. Use a screwdriver to remove the electrical cover plate on the bottom of the unit. Unscrew the green ground screw. Untwist the wire nuts connecting the hot (black) and neutral (white) wires. Finally, loosen the clamp holding the armored power cable and pull the cable free from the disposal.

Goal: Safely detach the hard-wired power cable from the old disposal
