What happens here
After all machining and component preparation are complete, the engine block is moved to a dedicated assembly room. Here, the long block is meticulously assembled, involving the installation of the crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons. Every critical tolerance and clearance, including main and rod bearing clearances, piston ring end gaps, piston-to-wall clearance, piston-to-valve clearance, lash settings (for mechanical lifters), and oil pump pickup tube clearances, is measured and documented on a detailed build sheet. The reluctor wheel (58x) is tack-welded to the crankshaft to prevent rotation and ensure precise timing, a common failure point if not secured.
Goal: Assemble the engine long block with meticulous precision and documentation
Tools and materials
