It's PURPLE! You Won't believe what we ran on the Sawmill today!
What happens here
After the log is secured, the sawmill is started, and the first cut is made. This initial pass removes the outermost rounded section of the log, known as a slab, to create a flat surface for subsequent cuts. The debarker is engaged before the main blade makes contact to clean the bark. The saw head travels along the length of the log, producing a rough, bark-covered slab. The sawdust from the red cedar is distinctly reddish-purple, indicating the wood's vibrant interior.
Goal: Create a flat face on the log for further milling.
