Installing 2 New Outdoor Outlets for a customer, what would you rate this install? #electrician
What happens here
Now, pull the 12/2 Romex wire through the EMT conduit and into each of the outdoor electrical boxes. Carefully strip the outer sheathing and insulation from the black (hot), white (neutral), and bare copper (ground) wires. Connect the incoming power wires to the 'LINE' terminals of the GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlet. If you are wiring additional outlets downstream from this GFCI, connect the wires feeding those outlets to the 'LOAD' terminals. Connect the bare copper ground wire to the green ground screw on the GFCI outlet and to the electrical box if it's metal. Once wired, carefully secure the GFCI outlet into the box and install a weather-protective cover (often called a 'bubble cover' or 'in-use cover') over each outlet to protect it from the elements, even when a cord is plugged in.
Goal: Safely and correctly wire both GFCI outlets and install weather-protective covers.
Tools and materials
- GFCI Outlet — Providing ground fault protection against electrical shock for outdoor use
- Pliers — Bending wires into proper loops for terminal screws
- Screwdriver Set — Making terminal connections on the GFCI outlet and securing the cover plates
- Weather-Protective Cover — Protecting the GFCI outlet from moisture and debris, even when in use
- Wire Strippers/Cutters — Stripping insulation from wires and cutting them to length
