I NEED HELP WITH MY FORD TRUCK!

What happens here

Using a multimeter set to measure DC voltage, perform a preliminary check. Connect the black (negative) lead of the multimeter to a known good ground, such as the negative battery terminal. Connect the red (positive) lead of the multimeter to the small 'S' terminal (ignition wire) on the starter solenoid. Have someone turn the ignition key to the 'START' position. The multimeter should display battery voltage (typically around 12-12.5 volts). If there is no voltage reading, the problem lies upstream in the ignition switch or wiring, not the solenoid itself.

Goal: Verify the starter solenoid receives the ignition signal voltage

Tools and materials

  • Multimeter — Measuring DC voltage to the solenoid's ignition terminal
  • Vehicle Ford — The vehicle being tested
