I messed up and the cows are destroying it!
What happens here
Once the hot wire is laid out along the fence line, secure the end by attaching it to a termination knot or a bullnose insulator on the end post. Use a ratchet strainer (XT1 from Strainrite NZ) to pull the wire taut, ensuring it's tight enough to deter animals without being overly stressed. The ratchet strainer allows for easy tensioning and holds the wire securely. For long runs, you might use multiple ratchet strainers or Gripple joiners to connect sections and maintain tension.
Goal: Securely tension and connect the hot wire to the fence posts.
Tools and materials
- Bullnose Insulator Gallagher — Securing the hot wire at corner/end posts
- Crank Handle — Operating the ratchet strainer
- High-Tensile Wire Meriwether Wire — The hot wire being tensioned and connected
- Insulated Wire DARE — Running current across gate openings underground
- Ratchet Strainer — Tensioning the hot wire
