I Made Fake Beams in Our Bedroom
What happens here
Prepare the beams for staining by lightly sanding all surfaces with 120-grit sandpaper, focusing on removing any print, stamps, or rough edges. You can create a dust-free sanding station by attaching a shop vacuum to the top of your ladder, connecting its hose to a random orbital sander. Once sanded, mask off the areas of the white ceiling adjacent to the beams using painter's tape to prevent stain bleed. Apply Minwax Weathered Oak semi-transparent stain to all surfaces of the beams using a rag, ensuring an even coat. Apply multiple coats if a darker or more opaque finish is desired, allowing adequate drying time between coats. Once the desired finish is achieved, carefully remove the painter's tape before the stain fully dries to prevent peeling.
Goal: Prepare the beams for a finished look by sanding, masking, and applying stain.
