Apply Stain with Proper Technique

When spraying the fence, it's crucial to use the correct technique to ensure even coverage and prevent overspray. Hold your spray gun at a slight angle, ideally around 45 degrees, relative to the fence pickets. This angle helps to prevent stain from shooting straight through any small gaps between pickets or through knot holes, which would cause overspray on the other side of the fence. Maintain a low pressure setting on your sprayer and use a small tip size, such as a 310 or 510 tip, to optimize control and minimize atomization of the stain, further reducing overspray. Spray in consistent up and down motions. If you're less experienced, release the trigger at the end of each pass to save product and prevent accidental overspray. For full coverage, especially when re-staining the fence the same color, aim to spray one entire section between two 4x4 posts before moving on to back-rolling and brushing.
