What happens here
This video demonstrates how to repair a small chip or crack in a vehicle's windshield using an inexpensive DIY repair kit. The process involves cleaning the area, applying resin with a specialized applicator and vacuum, allowing it to cure, and then scraping off the excess to prevent further damage and improve visibility.

(11,293 characters)hey guys it's Josh Stoney Ridge farmer today on the farm vlog I've got something I want to show you I bought a kit to repair a crack in my windshield as you can see this is a Mercedes Sprinter van and the windshield is huge on this thing I just knew it was a matter of time before a rock chip hit my window now you might be saying Josh I've got insurance the insurance will pay for this no problem well if you don't have insurance you might want to know how to fix it on your own because it cost about $100 to get it fixed if you take it to the repair shop and about a hundred and twenty dollars at my local windshield repair place which is a national chain I think it was about $120 for them to come out and fix a crack this big so come along with me here on the farm vlog today I'm going to show you how to make a repair to your windshield basically I'll show you the kit and I'll put a link down below in the description to the kit that we use and that way if you need to make a repair on the cracked windshield that you got you can do it without spending more than 15 bucks awesome awesome stuff let's save some money on the Stoney Ridge farm today guys oh and I want to talk to you about a new drink I've been drinking I've been drinking this kombucha drink now this kombucha is evidently made from the blood of worthless hippies that won't work and it makes you really really strong so kombucha guys get it at Walmart all right [Music] New Age phone before we get started we got to go down here to the chickens I've got some old Rotten Tomatoes we're gonna throw to our ultimate recyclers the chickens kind of cool you guys haven't seen the chickens in a while this is a farm blog would see it Sundance little puppy update for you guys hey girlfriends little friends go play go have fun so I went to my dad's house a couple days ago and we got Tomatoes they had rotten spots on them I didn't want to Khanum because they had rotten spots on them and we're just gonna feed them to the chickens I hate to throw all this food away but it's really not throwing it away it's making good eggs for us it's always good to give our chickens a special treat they treat us with eggs every day so we might as well give them little treats too so first things first guys I'm gonna get my materials together I've got my windshield repair kit I have some foaming glass cleaner okay and I have ultra duster okay I'll post a link to all this stuff and I also have paper towels not just any paper towels these lint-free type paper towels that you get from either auto parts store it's a heavy duty type paper towel I'll post the link to those you can order them online also everything you need here you can get on Amazon I'll do the work for you I'll post a link down below if you want to repair your windshield and have some extra goodies to have around this is always good good thing to have don't do that it's unlawful right here so I'm using the Gator is my stepladder right here this thing is really really high up I didn't want to bring my stepladder out so what we're gonna do is we're gonna take right here's my crack we're gonna spray a little glass cleaner on that kind of clean around the whole area what a clean the area around it probably somewhere in the neighborhood of eight to ten inches around it the next thing we're gonna do is kind of strange we're gonna take our little blower and blow out in there so we're blowing it out so that if there are any little glass shards in there that they release and they blow out okay so we're gonna blow at it from a couple different angles to get any of the little loose glass pieces out the way this thing works is that the Sun dries it okay so we also need to let the Sun dry all the glass cleaner off and we also need to drink some more hippies blood hmmm lazy hippies it's organic kombucha I picked this up at any grocery store Walmart or whatever and that's some sentiment down in the bottom and it's a naturally fermented product it just makes me feel good I don't know what's in it or what it's something magical in there I don't know but it just makes me feel good I'm really excited about it and I want to tell you about it so you don't have to forgive me this stuff this is called bullseye okay bullseye that's upside down but if I flip it over you you get it and it comes in a kit and it has several little goodies in here and we're gonna get all these little goodies out it comes with instructions we're gonna read over the instructions and we're gonna fix our cracked windshear there is a crack can't really see it this guy's really pretty can't see the crack good from the outside someone show you on the inside all right there's a little crack it's only about a dime-size crack step one clean out any loose glass particles from the pit clean surrounding area with paper towel or dry cloth done peel adhesive backing off of tab peeling the adhesive don't touch that it's sticky next step so we take this little ring and we press it over the crack in the window it says to do it with the pedestal side up and press all the way around ensuring a good seal I need a camera operator gosh it's so hot oh welcome to the South so hot I'm dripping dripping with sweat next part of this is peeling off this peeling off that green stuff and then you match up your pedestal right here match him up and press it into place firmly next thing it says to do is cut the tip off of this resin container okay it's got a little cap on it let's get to eat that and get some cancer it's kind of unclear as to where the tip is okay oh I'm gonna have this all over myself got to be careful careful I just broke the tip that sucks and it says squeeze all this into that hole but it says slide that in that hole and squeezed all the resin into it you stick this syringe in press it tightly and there's a little lock on the top pull the syringe back until it engages the lock so there's the syringe and it's locked into place with a little metal lock don't be an idiot like me and pull the lock mechanism off evidently this pulls back and provides a vacuum to suck the resin into the crack let's go inside the truck and take a look at what's going on so now I'm inside the van and this is what's going on I can't see a whole lot but it's evidently drawing that material in there that resin to seal that crack it says leave it for 10 minutes so supposed to save this for the final step so after 10 minutes you release your clip so you take this out then you let a little air in there that's what it says then there's another notch right here you open it up you depress back in there and then you squeeze down to lock some pressure on the other notch and right there's the other notches a notch here and there's a notch here and this one is for pulling up and that one's for pulling down leave this in position for 20 minutes the other way it was for 10 minutes make sure we got a good seal so while we're waiting on the resin to cure it takes about 20 minutes let's do a little bit of mail time ok what is this somewhere in between generations here we forgot how to read things on paper guys how many of your kids if you've got kids know how to read a map do yourself a favor when you go on a road trip when you go somewhere break out the map and get your kids to look at the map and know where they are because one day there might not be a stupid screen to look at I'm tired of looking at screens I don't know about you except for this screen because this is cool cuz you're behind it whoa you're cheating them if you don't do it you're also cheating them out of the skill of learning how to fold a map back up so the next part of the instructions says to take a safety razor and remove this little object from the window I don't have a safety razor but a tick a pair of vise grips and scraper and a [ __ ] get it up we'll take our syringe off set it over here and basically said all you had to do is get it started and it'll peel right up it's just kind of the case then take the razor scrape off the excess take this little clear film it's almost clear and you drop a drop of the resin put a little drop on there and we'll take that and press it on the window and we give it about an hour depress it on the window so guys we got to give this thing about an hour to dry I don't think it's gonna look good I've just my gut feeling tells me just looking at it right here I don't know let's see in an hour take that thing off this resin is cured by ultraviolet light so the Sun will cure it in an hour we'll take it off and we'll see but I still see the crack visible so it's definitely not as good as like safe light or one of your auto glass places that comes out and does this at least I don't think so so let's look back in an hour and we'll see what it looks like is it worth it or not our little tab here is ready to come off our little like clear lens type material I'll take you up there and we'll scrape it off and see what it looks like so here's what the resin looks like it's it's kind of pliable really gooey stuff and here is the finished product so let's see what we got peel that back left it oh a gooey nasty little mess there let's scrape that mess off can't really see it doesn't matter so much where I can see it on the outside it's the inside that counts so let's go inside see if this stuff is worth it here's what I scraped off before we go inside let me tell you about this glass cleaner this is some kind of foaming glass cleaner look at the container I'm not sure what the brand is style selections that's the brand don't buy this why here don't buy this it's garbage now I'm in the van if you ask me it looks a little bit better but maybe even cracked more you guys be the judge I'll put a before shot what we looked at before I'll put it right up next to this one and we'll go back and forth and see what you think so the overall goal of this video was to show you how to repair a crack in your windshield now was the goal to repair the crack to where you couldn't see it anymore was the goal to seal the crack off so it doesn't get any bigger my goal was to seal the crack off so it doesn't get any bigger so this product supposedly has sealed off that crack and it won't get any bigger now it'll take weeks or so to know whether it really actually works or not but I've got insurance to cover it if it doesn't but I thought I'd try the $14 method and instead of sending it to my insurance company and making them pay $100 so not everybody's like that so guys thanks a lot for watching the vlog today I wanted to show you a few things that were going on I changed sunglasses I went for a ride I had to take the puppies to the vet to get their shot they just got their final round of shots so I want to make sure I did that thanks for watching the vlog click that like button if you like what you see hopefully you learned something about how to repair crack in your windshield to me I still see the crack but it's supposedly sealed it cost 14 bucks I'll post a link down below thanks a lot guys click that like button [Music] sweet [Music] wait a minute don't leave you know what this stuff sucks guess what I'm gonna do before we go I'm going to shoot it don't sell bad products and now I won't have to shoot them [Applause]
