Installing and Sealing the Chimney
At 13:37 in
How to install a wood burning stove in a steel building or carport or barn.
What happens here
With the hole cut and chimney components prepared, the narrator slides the insulated chimney pipe up through the roof opening. A wooden 2x4 is used to prop up the pipe from inside the building, ensuring the rubber seal is properly centered on the pipe. He then takes the rubber flashing boot up to the roof and slides it over the pipe. He checks the pipe with a level to ensure it is vertical. Finally, he press-fits the flashing onto the corrugated metal roof, screws it down, and generously applies high-temperature RTV silicone sealant around all edges and screw heads to create a watertight seal. The bracing bars from the Roof Brace Kit are then attached to the pipe and secured to the roof to provide stability.
Goal: Secure the chimney pipe to the roof, install flashing, seal it, and brace for stability.
