What happens here
Prepare the brooder environment for the baby chicks. For this project, a large plastic stock tank is used as the brooder. Lay down a generous layer of pine shavings (not cedar) on the bottom of the tank. Ensure there is a light source, preferably a low-wattage fluorescent bulb, to provide constant light for the first 1.5 weeks. Position a heat source, either a heat lamp or a brooder/coop heater, to maintain a comfortable temperature for the chicks. The heat lamp should be hung from a secure bar or clamp above the brooder. If using a heat lamp, ensure it has a guard to prevent contact with shavings.
Goal: Create a warm, dry, and safe environment for chicks.
