How a plumber caulks a toilet
What happens here
After applying the caulk, use a gloved finger to gently smooth the caulk bead along the caulked perimeter of the toilet base. Work carefully to create a clean, consistent line. Next, take a wet contractor sponge and wipe away any larger excess caulk from the tile floor. For caulk directly on the toilet porcelain, use a piece of toilet paper or a clean rag to carefully wipe it off without smearing the freshly smoothed caulk line. Rinse the sponge or use fresh paper towels as needed to avoid reapplying caulk or leaving streaks.
Goal: Smooth the applied caulk bead with a finger, then wipe away any excess caulk from the toilet and floor using a sponge and paper towels for a clean finish.
