Caulking and Sealing Gaps

Before painting, meticulously caulk and seal all gaps and cracks. Use a good quality exterior caulk, such as 'Big Stretch' caulk, which offers flexibility to accommodate movement. Focus on areas where trim meets siding, around window frames, door frames, and any other penetrations like vents or light fixtures. Apply the caulk smoothly with a caulk gun and then tool it with a finger or specialized tool for a clean, uniform bead. This step is crucial for weatherproofing and achieving a professional finish, ensuring no moisture can penetrate behind the trim.
