Head Flashing 101: School is in session ✏️📚
What happens here
With the flashing notched and cut, it's time to form the corner. Place the flashing on a sturdy surface, such as a workbench or a piece of scrap wood, aligning the cut edge of the bottom flange (the tab you just created) with the edge of your work surface. Using your hands, carefully bend the bottom flange tab upwards and around the corner created by the top flange. The previously cut notch in the top flange will allow this fold to happen cleanly, creating a neat, closed corner. Apply firm and even pressure to ensure a tight, crisp bend.
Goal: Create a finished, neat corner on the metal flashing by folding the prepared sections.
Tools and materials
- L-shaped Metal Flashing — The material being folded to create the corner
- Rubber Mallet — To gently tap and refine the bend for a tighter corner
- Sturdy Workbench/Surface — Providing a stable edge against which to bend the metal
