Handyman Series: How to repair a wood privacy fence, replacing boards with or without cuts

What happens here

With the fence frame cleared, take the custom-cut new boards and position them in the vacant section. Ensure they are evenly spaced and align with the existing fence's top curve. Using a cordless drill, securely fasten each board to the horizontal rails with ceramic-coated screws, driving two screws per board (one at the top and one at the bottom). These screws provide superior holding power and weather resistance compared to nails, especially for outdoor applications.

Goal: Permanently attach the custom-cut boards to the fence structure

Tools and materials

  • Ceramic-Coated Screws — Permanent fastening of the new boards due to their durability and weather resistance
  • Cordless Drill DeWalt — Driving screws to secure the boards
