Hand Pounding a Well for the Homestead 4K
What happens here
After identifying the prime location, begin by augering the first 4 feet of the well hole. The goal is to create a wide enough initial bore to easily insert a 3-inch PVC pipe. This PVC pipe will serve as a guide and protective sleeve for the actual well pipe, making future maintenance and replacement easier. Digging the initial section with an auger also helps to stabilize the top soil before pounding begins.
Goal: Create a stable, initial hole for the well pipe and guide.
