What happens here

This video details the process of removing thick layers of ice from a gravel driveway using heavy machinery, specifically a skid steer equipped with a specialized hydro bucket grading rake. It covers preparing the equipment, grinding the ice, clearing the resulting material, and highlights the advantages of this method for gravel surfaces over asphalt or concrete.

all right good morning you guys we got a pretty full day because we've got inches and inches of ice that are covering a gravel driveway and we're gonna see if we can grind it right down it's one degree outside all right let's go grind some ice and of course we got our drink of the day which is gonna be spin drip half tea and half lemonade or lemon so like an arnold palmer in a sparkling water not my first choice either if you like arnold palmer's you may enjoy this but you may not tiny development thieves have been breaking into our equipment so we no longer leave keys hidden anywhere on it which we love to do and of course i forgot all of the keys because i'm used to not having them here we don't have any cat keys nothing god dang it all right do you get anything you can do will i go get the key are you just saying that to be nice or do you actually have something you can [Laughter] do thieves have been striking our site they stole the catalytic converter off our truck but then after that they came back three days later and stole our trailer so you're gonna see a video coming up where we build a snow bunker to protect all of our equipment we haven't filmed it yet but we're going out to film that one this week because it just literally happened and at the end of this video this is the big reveal the box gets opened it's going to be awesome everywhere you go it's like an ice skating rink out here all right before we can grind ice we got to get the bucket to grind ice [Music] so to grind the ice we're going to be using the cmp hydra bucket and this is the same bucket that we use to grade all of our yards and jobs it's basically got a power grade bar built into the back of the bucket so it's a bucket and a power grader combined [Music] so yeah that's one of the things that i do like to do is whenever i see that the hydrants are getting snow caked around them i like to clear those out because if there ever was a fire there's no way for these firefighters to safely clear this hydrant out hook up their hoses and still have time to put out a fire so if i can save them a step or two i'll do it all day long [Music] so this is a lot of what we're dealing with inches of ice covering everything hasn't been a snowy winter it's been an icy one though just to show you how thick it is i think this is about the only place where we actually have kind of like this weird melty spot so that shows you just how thick it is covering the ground let's lift it up once and test it see if it's ground if it's hey seems good to me [Music] you know one of the things i like about this idea is if you have a hydra bucket and you live somewhere where you have conditions like this you can put this bucket to work year round and make some extra income out of it if this works how well that break up [Music] [Applause] we got a lot of inches to go oh yeah so [Music] i think you got a rotator the opposite way you drive yeah yeah yeah she's really kicking it out now of course you guys probably realize you can't do this on asphalt or concrete because this hydra bucket will a either it will ruin asphalt and concrete and you ruin your hydra bucket at the same time but on a gravel driveway boom this thing is amazing [Music] now you could pull the same thing off with the power rake the only problem is you can't really pick the material that you have up and move it out of the way and you can't really get the ice pushed like with our ice what we're doing is we're literally hauling it as far away as we possibly can because i don't want it to re it'll refreeze into a block and i'm just trying to get it so i don't have giant blocks of ice still in my yard in june and july okay this is how much ice we've ground already if i can do it without getting my shadow in there that's a lot of ice and we got a lot we still got a ways to go she'd be thick so we're getting a touch of gravel in mixed in of course because we mean we're grinding a gravel driveway right so we'll just throw that back on the driveway in a different spot where we want it in the spring so this is where we're going next yes this is like a death trap we're down to dirt it's frozen dirt but it's dirt it's not ice [Applause] you're having fun aren't ya the herky jerky workie quad has a little finessing to it doesn't it it has a learning curve give yourself 25 30 hours and you'll be mediocre at best anything at all but this is working yeah god no more breaking your neck on the driveway dude i can't i was having a hard time climbing the hill with the skid loader it's so slick i think alex is done playing in the herky-jerky workie quad and wants something new put your foot on the parking brake she cold oh listen to her she must like you she's cold out i would have never thought she popped that easy i'm like alex why don't you go try to start the gravely i'll work on the driveway because i could see he's getting frustrated that's not that's not trying to start nothing now you just did well it looks like you figured it out pretty fast let's actually clear something up let's tip the bed up i want to show these guys something alex something because gray he's like is gravely just a cheaper version of a polaris oh it's automatic dump bed dude polaris this is 100 a polaris ranger but it's been it's had gravely mods done to it to really turn it into the ultimate jobsite vehicle like this bed it can handle a full-size pallet you see the dump on it it's got a headache rack so you don't smash out your rear windshield rear window which is an option the cab is an option automotive style doors are a bolt-on option the snow plow which says polaris on it you know it's a polaris because it says it right on it that's an option the height on that thing alex when you lift this all the way up you can really stack some snow with that dude you you don't get stuck either if you look there's nothing under here that binds up like if you went off-roading with this thing it's not there's your framework right there and there's your plow frame there's really nothing for it to bind i was so impressed with that just that the battery is under the seat so if you need to get at it here will you take the camera i'll show you yeah so like if you can't get her to fire up we flip this up boom there's your there's your battery right there how many cup holders you think this thing has a lot more than the mini loader one two three four five another one six seven eight wow how much are you gonna drink in this thing i mean they're they got like a party for two in here yeah they do all right well you can park the herky jerky workie quad and i'll grind on the driveway and after i get some grinding done then maybe you can push some of it off for me [Music] [Applause] [Music] so because the ice is so thick in aries and we'll actually show you how much ice we're grinding it does take multiple passes and we could have done the whole thing just with the kitty cat but it just gave us an option to get her down a little faster by working as a team [Music] well while alex is playing in the grave late let's go fire up the uh errands let's actually see if it'll fire up i just wanted to see if it would pop when it's this cold actually let's see hey alex hey you want to check something out we got a new snowblower and aaron snowblower and it's efi fuel injected no priming no doing nothing you turn the switch and it just you pull it and it should go okay but i don't know if it will because it's like super cold out are you telling me that that's not impressive come on now should we see if it can handle all that ice we just pushed up pile of it yeah you want to try it go for it so if you guys haven't seen it we did a whole video on this aaron snow blower but this looks like a pretty good test too right let's have a little fun why not who doesn't want some snow blowing action i like snow blowing action that's what she said oh that don't sound good that sounds like it's sucking a lot of rocks [Music] well that's one way to get my gravel driveway uh extended all the way to the i love listening to that aaron snow blower just hunker down well let's put it this way it would do it but my kitty cat will do it faster just use the cat that ice as soon as you stack it up it just oddly turns into one solid mass there's got to be a good inch and a half uh just ice right here that's how much ice we've grown down just holy crap let's hit her once more then we'll call it a day huh i think we got the rest of the driveway done we'll just touch up some zones right here and we're good all right well let's see how we did huh i guess that's a that's the way to end the video is let's check it out there's no ice out here this you can actually walk down now without slipping yeah that worked a little better than i thought it was yeah it worked really good yeah how did you think it was gonna did you think it would work or i kind of did but i thought once it would have got to the gravel and ice it wouldn't have made it past that but it chewed it up pretty good here's gravel yeah that's the that's the nicest my driveway's been graded yet that when i did it that one time yeah but we didn't have a hydra bucket then all right you guys that's our video for today god bless go get them you guys this does not look bad at all there it is oh i'm so excited about this you guys because this goes on the board and this means cmp attachments is gonna give you guys 10 off anything you order at their website and what that means is that hydra bucket you guys just looked at you type in code monkey dirt you type in code dirt monkey force they're going to give you 10 off that thing that's like going to save you guys 500 like if you wanted to grapple they make this they make the hydra grapple that'll save you 1200 dollars on it this is huge and here's the deal these guys don't pay me they don't they've never paid me a dime so this isn't some paid advertisement for them i've been to their shop i've met the owner i've done the tour i know the crew we're talking about good people building high quality materials i love their stuff i pursued them they didn't come to me with this idea so if you guys but it's only on their website you gotta go to their website and it's anything on their website anything at all at all so i'm gonna test out some of the other stuff on their website and let you see it to the two things i have so far is the hydra bucket that you seen today and then we have the hydro grapple which you've seen me use before love those things everybody on the crew does so you'll see a little bit more because i want to see some of the other stuff and how it works as well but this goes on the board i'm so pumped so pumped and there's a lot of great attachment companies built a lot of great people like the small the medium-sized attachment companies out there i found that they've got a lot of they just have a lot of pride in their workmanship um but these guys these guys i'm pumped about working with and that's our video for today guys hope you enjoyed it god bless and go get them you guys hopefully we'll see another one hit that like button if you don't mind and i just want to say thank you so much you guys are the best and hopefully this board is going to continue to grow i think this weighs more than my entire wall to be quite honest with you look at this thing this is so cool i'm honestly pumped about this but i don't think we put it i don't know i don't know where to put it it's heavy that'll be my problem to figure out see you on another one you guys listen let's listen to it you don't think it's heavy listen to a drop [Laughter] you know it's heavy
