Breaking in a new Skid Steer

so sam says the manito is a little bit what were you saying a little tippy with the other pusher on yeah yeah a little bit a little bit that's the only way so we'll throw a bigger push on and see what he's talking about so top-notch equipment out of rogers minnesota let me borrow this manito skid loader with no restrictions this was my second time being in it and it's got a joystick control but it's hydraulic over hydraulic meaning that the machine responds to you instantaneously as an operator what a difference that makes i don't know what a normal day at work looks like for a lot of you guys but this is what it looks like for me this maybe is a little bit too big see what i mean it's a little tippy that's what that's exactly what i meant we got a really full day today guys we're gonna be doing drink of the day we've got a list of shout outs and there's two new names on the board it's problem than the trailer yes it is so uh i'm gonna grab the sledge bucket maybe that'll be skinnier yeah yeah i think we got a dirt puck in here yeah nailed the corner of that pretty good with the bucket and all it did was scuff the paint texas pride baby so we're going to be testing out this skid loader doing a number of different things today the first one is loading and hauling snow that allows me just to get familiar with the machine then tomorrow we're gonna go out tomorrow well tomorrow in the video we're gonna go out and break up monster chunks of ice in a big snow bank and really slam this thing and push it hard [Music] so for this first part we've got a small account in downtown saint paul and i brought the dirt monkey trailer because i want to see if i can stuff all of the snow into it and get it all hauled out in one load just simply because sam and i don't want to be working all night long [Music] so i love these aluminum ramps if you guys buy a trailer get the aluminum ramps oh so much better than the steel ramps so watch as i back up i don't have a lot of space and this skid loader doesn't have a big fat booty meaning there's not a whole lot behind me and that's a design that i love i love that reminds me the old-school bobcats i used to run just little tighter compacter machines you just kind of felt like you were nestled in there a little bit more some of you operators may know what i mean i can't push too hard man i could go right through that fence these big chunks of ice could damage that really easy oh you got it [Music] [Applause] [Music] so this is a manito skid loader and it's made by the same company that makes gail i don't know if i'm pronouncing that right g-e-h-l and mustang skid loaders and i've never been in any one of the three so this is my second time ever even being in this piece of equipment and it's got hydraulic over hydraulic controls versus electronic over hydraulic controls and what that means is there's no operator delay so you literally your joystick sits right above your hydraulic control so as you operate it the machine responds and you can feel it and notice it it also runs a 69 horsepower yanmar engine which is directly connected to the pumps and it's a naturally aspirated engine so what that means is there's no belts or any any loss of horsepower from the engine to the pump meaning if it the engine's putting out 69 horsepower you're getting 69 horsepower to the i've also got to be careful if you look right above the dirt monkey trailer there's a skywalk so i don't want to lift those booms too high i don't know if i could hit him or not but i don't want to risk it i did not spray the box typically we would spray the box with diesel all in the old days we would spray the box with diesel fuel kerosene or antifreeze to keep the snow from sticking but that's no longer pc so i didn't do it and i was just hoping it would slide out not so lucky [Music] oh boys we done got a little stuck yeah i don't know what you guys use to keep snow from sticking in your box but i don't have a giant can of pam so i just grabbed the tlb to see if i could knock some of this snow off this seems like a good time to do the flavor of the day let me read this to you guys one of the things is i'm digging out this snow i've got to be careful not to put the teeth of the bucket into the bed because i can easily puncture a hole if i catch something wrong or there's d-ring tie-down d-rings in that bed if i snag one of those with a tooth i could rip that out so i got to be super careful but i got a little note and i got these sent to me here's the note hi stan notice you're sampling different kinds of drinks sparkling water get this stuff cold and give it a try homer from cleveland thank you homer from cleveland this is called nixia sparkling water and it's lime ginger two flavors that actually happen to light and see how they do together smells good i bet it tastes really good in a moscow mule that's for sure she's refreshing in an odd sort of way which is the kind of way i like my drinks to be honest with you so i've got to find something that i can coat this bottom of this dump trailer so when in the future when i'm hauling more snow i don't have to do this because it's really not efficient [Music] we did get all of the snow out in the first load so now it's time to load up the skiddy and get it back to the site so we can start phase two of this test so i don't think we had that one chained down the trailer it almost slipped we didn't have it oh we didn't see anybody we didn't we didn't have it james that was yeah a little bit i thought about that i felt that i was like wow that felt like it bounced a little more uh all right you got some change on hand yeah so on these dump trailers there's a chain in the front and what that does is that keeps the trailer from becoming a tilt deck trailer but if you forget to have that little chain hold the the dump trailer down it becomes a tilt deck trailer really fast and if you're not ready for it it can turn your blue plants brown pretty quick so now that i've had a little bit more seat time in this loader i wanted to see if i could really start to nail this wheelie and remember this is a joystick control machine so what it should be doing is as i go forward it should throw my body forward putting me out of control dude this is so responsive and smooth it just allows you to just kind of compensate for it now i know some of you guys are saying oh you're just beating that skid loader but if you look back when i was doing those wheelies when i was setting it down it really wasn't beating it i beat it more in the frozen banks of ice that are coming up right here than i do when i'm wheeling it [Music] so i don't know how to really put this but this machine just gives you great operator feedback [Music] from the feel of the tracks to the sound of the engine to everything that you're doing in it it just reminds me of my older school equipment with no hesitations or delays if you're pushing something too hard you can tell right away in the machine can't get traction come on baby come on give it to me give me some trash [Music] but what these guys have done is they've also got a unique track adjustment design which means your tracks always constantly stay tight and there's a switch in the back of the machine that allows you to flip it and it will loosen the tracks up and allow you to pop a track off or on in about 10 minutes with no special tools and in an upcoming video i'm going to be taking out a mustang skid loader which is the exact same thing as the manito and the gale as i said before but we're actually going to pop the track off and show you how that track adjustment feature works now i did ask how much these machines cost they already killed it the third time i did ask how much these machines cost and what i was told was they're around in the mid 50s brand new in the box oh look at that fat pile of snow and there goes the camera oh this camera's having a sign we need to reset this this one's having a bad day today i said this camera's having a bad day everything about this machine is fast your it responds to the operator fast um when you're actually pushing it beyond its limits you'll notice that it gives you everything it's got until it's got no more and then boom it'll go down on you fast and that's fine i love equipment that's that responsive that's just my personal connected with the machine honestly it was very impressive and i'm actually going to be testing out its brother or sister the the mustang version of this as well it's supposedly identical but we're going to find out and we're going to do something cool with that because they got this this ideal track system on that mustang so we're actually going to pop that track off and pop it back on and see exactly how fast we can do that plus i don't know what kind of crazy test you want to see me put that through but i'm going to do that as well and it might also give me a chance to really master that wheelie because uh if it's identical to that manito the more seat time in it i have maybe the better i can get that down for you and that's our video for today god bless go get him you guys hit the
