What happens here

This project details the process of grading an uneven dirt path in a yard using a Bobcat skid steer. The process involves preparing and inspecting the heavy machinery, carefully maneuvering it to remove existing obstacles, and then performing multiple passes to cut down high spots, fill depressions, and create a smooth, level surface. The project emphasizes cautious operation and attention to detail to achieve a professional finish while minimizing environmental impact.

all right good morning you guys we're going to be starting a brand new project grading out a lot i want to show you what we're doing um we've got a hump in the middle of this year oh there's donna right now hi donna we're gonna grab this trailer get this mumford don't let them off cause they don't stop barking that's fine come here buddy come on come on usually i go yeah you better check me out you better check me out yeah i don't blame you i don't blame you yeah would you like doggies i was just gonna just doing the walk through before the before and after donna okay so we're gonna take this hump out right and just kind of push it back as far as you can just to kind of level it out just to get it cleaned up and graded out okay yep and then i don't know what i'll do with it but i'll do something so i don't have the quite the right equipment but we're gonna i'm gonna try with what i have and if that doesn't work then i'm gonna switch and go grab something new so okay if i disappear for a while for it i'm not if you go and come back or come back later whatever i'm not there's no timeline well it's just it's always bugging me when we get the trailer out of here it's just hard to you know i don't know it's just yeah you got this weird hump right there so i'll hook up to the trailer and move that for you donna i see we got some stumps back in here so those are going to be a bit of a well you don't have to do anything there probably right just kind of yeah i mean i like i'd like to blend things together so i like to kind of take the grade forward and backward a little bit and whenever i come to a stump or a piece of concrete that doesn't get moved okay then that dictates where my elevation is okay that's all you know so i'm like when i look when i walk through these things i'm kind of talking to you but i'm kind of also talking to myself i emptied out this mostly i'm gonna do more of a walk through donna real quick so i'm gonna try to take some of this soil here and then i'm gonna be blending it this way i think and i'm gonna try to isolate my work inside of this zone i don't really want to go out into your into your yard anywhere um this looks like we got soft compressionable kind of black dirt ish so this soil is going to be pretty easy to grade yeah you know i pulled out all here was i just pulled out all this stuff and it was just this was just rampant in here and i just went through it and just what is that stuff no but i hate it i hate it too i was pulling it last night yeah and it pulls out easy yep but um and it's kind of kind of got like stickies on it i don't know what the heck that is yeah same problem i got all right well i'm gonna i'm gonna go get my crippled uh bucket okay all right and hopefully hopefully she'll get the job done for you thank you all right what the heck are these now that is a baptisia that is a name and this is what the heck do they call these is you know what i okay i just took some pic what is that uh that's uh one of those um was it uh does it have the turk or the yeah it was a giant lime green yeah yeah it's japanese was it a japanese beetle or yeah because i just no picture on them they're on my what you call it's down stomach yeah that's the japanese beetle is it okay even with the green on there all right then i'll come get this stuff moved out for you all right let's go over i want to show you the tracks this was interesting so i just had to bring some of these character stones up you can clearly see and i left my grass long intentionally because we've been going through a drought and i didn't want to cut it and burn it but you can see everywhere that i had to drive i had to make a couple trips and i made sure that i did three-point turns that's all just from driving not ripping nothing up but look at here all these trees are dead like totally dead they're not even like slightly alive when i said i got almost 100 trees because everything in there that whole row all dead everything that should be a full green can't see in there canopy now it's like sunlight right down to the ground all dead [Applause] oh here's the bucket hey you guys i'm gonna jump into today's video because there's an app that i actually wanted to develop but then i dropped the ball and i never got to what i wanted to do was create an app that would go and contact your customers for you and get them to give you reviews where you need them to be placed well a company called broadly did just that but then they took this to the next level they took this idea and they made it way better so how broadly works is it's an automatic app where you put your customers contact info in and then what it does is when you're done with the job it reaches out to the customer and text them and asks them to give you a review you want reviews on google you want as many reviews as many places as you can possibly get because that creates social proof of your work there is nothing more powerful or more impactful than having your neighbor and your other neighbor and your other neighbor all bragging about the kind of jobs you do but if you don't get reviews you don't get them doing that this is where they took my idea and even went further what broadly then does is they scour the internet looking for four plus star reviews for you they go on google they go on facebook they go on these places where people typically hang out and leave reviews and whenever they find a four-star or better review this is where it gets so cool they pull it off from the internet and they automatically put it on your website you don't do a thing and what probably does is take that kind of work that you and i maybe don't want to do and do it for us and generating reviews is one of the most powerful and impactful ways that you can grow your business above and beyond anything else for seo because it google prioritizes reviews because it instantly places you above companies that may have been established for a lot longer than you've been around but if you have more reviews than them your gen your business is generating more interest and google notices that that's why this this program is absolutely so powerful so impactful and this is why i wanted to jump in here and tell you about this because it can take a young fresh business and give them a lot of credibility really quick if you want to build a strong lasting online presence and a reputation that helps you win more business than you need broadly best of all you can try it for free just go to broadly.com backslash dirt monkey to get started this is what i'm going to be using it's a four in one but these hoses got pulled and when they got pulled that's right where she leaks see she ain't supposed to do that so she pulled apart so technically i only need that part but we're just going to see what we can do with her the way she is the work before the work begins i'm gonna fix that tire yeah yeah fix that tire all right you guys if you ever are wondering if you should get one of these little inflators i think milwaukee sells them skill cells a lot of places sell them they're definitely worth it so i got hooked up to the tire it'll burn through an entire battery just doing one skid loader tire but that means i can be checking over the rest of the machine i can grease it i can do everything i need to do while this tire is inflating and not sit and mess with it once you hook it up it'll tell you how many pounds you're at right now and then when you it'll you just go where you want to go this tire is supposed to have 80 pounds so we are pretty flat we're gonna go up to probably said i didn't forget it it's going to take about 10 minutes to get there but i'll do the rest of what i got to do with this machine while that does everything it needs to do so we're going to do the pre-machine fire up walk around this should be pretty standard you guys that run equipment know this probably do your own i'd love to hear what you guys do [Music] so we've got which when on the back of the machines you see these numbers if you're not familiar with heavy equipment those numbers represent the hours and date that the last service was done on it so 1725 hours so when i jump in the machine that means i can look at how many hours on it if it's got 1800 1900 hours that means i've got 50 100 hours on that oil now this machine is looking a little dirty in the back i'm not worried about the dirt this dirt and dust that doesn't bother me as much as oil so i'm looking for oil combined in the bottom looking in the bottom of the drip pan also removing anything from some of the last jobs which i should have already done i don't see any broken hoses that one's a little loose they of course do the courtesy dipstick oil check if you ever have your oil blowing out the back of your engine on some machines you may not have stuck your dipstick all the way in i know that's a stupid thing to say but i actually had an operator a veteran operator call me up the engine's blowing oil what's going on and i came out and i went to the back of the machine and put his dipstick back all the way in and i said try that so even the best do it we do have to uh [Music] put the door the door not close on me thing there we go all right let's check the air filter on this one i have not checked that recently so this these got an inner and an outer air filter i think this machine needs a good once-over oh yeah okay so you're never supposed to bang out an air filter but i do anyway because i don't know you're not supposed to but when you're out in the field sometimes it's not feasible just to go buy a new air filter and replace it and it's better to get a little bit out than but now you mechanics they say well there's a reason why you do it you're going to explain this a lot better than i do but when you're banging out an air filter what i learned was you're actually compacting the dust into it making it actually can be more difficult for the engine to breathe in a way so pretty careful how i bang that out [Music] here's our inner so some of the if you look you can actually see that's probably just from my fingers yeah these are you can see where we pulled this out before to check it but it can still be replaced so even our air filters are labeled this one has 920 hours so this is that inner air filter has not been changed in a while so this whole machine could probably just go in and get some tlc done on it or we could do it ourselves but like almost everybody else that's got a is a skilled trade we're short-handed and overworked so sometimes it's just easier to take a machine in for service but that's where a lot of your dollars are lost too you know a lot of your dollars get lost just bringing equipment in to do something that you could potentially do yourself and why is that not closing heavy door i do not like the lights on the older skid loaders it's just my preference so we'll fire this up machine up let her warm up see where this tire is at 32 like i said she'll burn through a whole battery if i wanted to get to 80 she'd do it but she'd take about 20 minutes to do it which isn't the end of the world if you've got other things to do and by the time you pull an air compressor out and uh make sure there's no wasps in here oh hey one thing i do want to tell you guys is um well i got you right here i'm trying out a brand new pair of work pants and these are by cujo like the same people that make these uh shoes i freaking love the cujo shoes i'm not a fan of the work boots not a fan of their work boots their shoes are amazing and yes i grabbed the first pair of socks i could find this morning but look at these pants super lightweight it's almost like wearing a pair of shorts they're not paying me to say this but the backs the whole backs is this breathable mesh and the whole pant is super lightweight i i freaking love it i've only had them on for a couple days now but sometimes it doesn't take that long for you to figure out i wish it did have a zipper pocket it's got button pockets which isn't the end of the world but i'd love to have one zipper pocket and it does not have it three quarters tank of fuel green means go so now we just need that tire to fill up and we'll just let this machine warm up a little bit so a little brief history donna has been a neighbor of mine for 20 years and she's gone through a little bit of a of a rough patch lately so i just want to help her out she's been an awesome neighbor but you know they say bad things come in three and boy did donna get her three man lost her husband she had some medical issues and you know it's just she doesn't need anything else to go wrong sometimes you just need a little bit of right in your world i'm not doing anything big or important but if it can help out i do like this little community up here we all watch out for each other good people up here and they're very patient with me all of my equipment which helps out a lot here's an here's an interesting fact we actually have a species of bug in minnesota that is related to scorpions and they actually have the scorpion tail not sure if this is it but this is what they look like they're tiny tiny this is not a tick this might be one of those scorpions and i had no clue about that until actually my truck driver told me about it and then i looked it up and i'm like that's a real thing scorpion bugs in minnesota not not joking i've seen one we seen one on a job site he pointed it out and there was the tail the claws the whole thing but it was like the sl you just don't see them it's freaking weird freaking weird bugs are weird we just got to get it out of our work zone oh it's like a community down here toad and the mouse hanging out side by each you guys probably need to take off there's the mouse's nest and there's the toad with an ant crawling on them yeah take off mouse okay you are going the wrong way you gotta go this way be surprised when you start grading and you try to blend everything together just how much space you need because the blending is what you don't want that edge right you want everything just to flow together just so you need space to do that i don't even know if i got that barrel far enough away uh we're at 62 pounds out of 80. that's about right all right we'll leave the forks on for now so both my sticks left the right left steer my left foot makes the whole boom arm go up and down my right controls the tilting angle of my bucket as i'm driving guys what i'm doing is i'm trying to feel any differences in the loader tires you can actually when you're driving you can feel if your loader tires are just slightly one is higher lower off oh they put enough hours in on them you can see it too but [Music] so i don't want to go into her yard anymore than i have to but i have to get this trailer out [Music] my controls are so sticky this ain't gonna work i'm gonna have to go under her yard to get that trailer off curled all the way back [Music] that ain't gonna work this is what's gonna work right here [Music] i know you guys are like why did you do all right to make this work i got a chain i'm just gonna chain the trailer to the skiddy [Music] sometimes you know when i talk to you guys i talk to some of you guys like you've been doing this for a long time but i also try to talk to some of you guys like you've never seen it before everybody feels like they're part of the game [Music] i don't have a ball hitch on this i don't know if you can hear me because i'm in my skid loader now man i gotta grease this son of a duck up all right i don't need a four in one bucket i just need a bucket all at is too alright until i can get a new hose put on all i did was wrap these around my stop keeps them out of the way and effectively turned a four in one bucket into a bucket and that's all i need all right so i think i'm just gonna take this ridge see if i can move it into there let's grab this let's grab this ridge out [Music] let's try to get this so it's seamless there we go i like that a little better still a titch high over here oak stump roots of the stump getting involved they got to get in there to play [Music] so i have zero interest in touching that grass if i don't have to still feel like i'm a lot tiny bit high all through here tiny tiny tiny bit got a stump there so that stump is going to make parading a little more difficult [Music] let's get that convinced to get out of our zone go away stump this is the work [Music] there we go nice tight turn i always like to look where the work is happening and maybe you guys do too so let's move here over there huh all right so we don't have a whole lot of material to work with here so what we're going to do is we're going to take what we do have which is basically a bucket full and just blend it this way and then smooth this stuff out so we're not cutting we're not filling legitimately all we're doing is pretty much leveling right and we just needed a little bit of material that we could a little bit of loose material that we could use for the leveling process she just got a lot of little tiny uneven contenders you know [Music] contenders a lot of tiny little even uneven content what the heck does that even mean she's got a lot of tiny little holes all over just unlevel where she's transplanted stuff and sometimes i say things that don't even make sense to me you guys so i'm just saying if it doesn't make sense to you you're not going nuts [Applause] [Music] so [Music] right in the middle you can always tell when you get that weird little drag part [Music] no i'm on her her grass but i gotta catch this great over here [Music] tiny ridge take that out a little bit of a ridge [Music] here fluff that soil out lift it up a little bit these are just fun little micro adjustments these little tiny jobs are awesome for boy if you got a guy then god his controls are so sticky you got a guy that wants to really learn how to grade don't put him on a big job put him on a little job and tell him to get it right [Music] all right [Music] one last bag drink i always say that and then i do like five more [Music] because it ain't work if you're having fun right does it really count as work if you're having fun i love that grade when you get that bucket just right right there you can grade but not compact [Music] all the way grade but not because i want her to be able to grow something [Music] so i'm trying to get the bucket just to the point [Music] just to this little finessy point [Music] where i'm not trying to flat top it like i do the driveways i'm trying to keep it kind of like a broom finish [Music] i hear the crows i hear the crows sometimes what they say is something's going on they tell me about what's going on more than anything else sometimes all right so this can just be fluffed looks like this is a fluff fluffing a rake fluffing a rake fluffing a rake a little kick with a shoe i think we're good i think we're good i think we got the weird ridges humps and lumps and bumps out [Music] [Applause] found a brick found a squishy ball for mumford let's go find donna and check the job i always every job big little small tiny i always walk it with the customer before i leave because i learned that when you take off it's a lot easier to do it before you leave than it is after donna can you come on look at the thank you so much that has bugged me for so long oh it has yeah oh that's funny so i think maybe i'll just um i think i'm going to just try and get some grassy to put over all this what do you think yeah i left it kind of loose should i prep it first well i kind of did that yeah okay so if you look it's not perfectly like here it's not prepped right but i plan on putting the trailer back here right yep yep because this stuff is a little too hard for grass seed so if you wanted to but like down there i'll just um so i don't i just put the grassy down i don't have to put anything over it i would rake it in break it yeah and…
