What happens here

With all individual truss components constructed, cut, and dry-fitted, proceed with the final installation onto the structure. Work from a stable and secure ladder. Carefully lift and position the main horizontal hollow beam (constructed in previous steps) into its designated place on the porch or patio structure. Ensure it is perfectly level using a spirit level and correctly aligned. Securely fasten it to the underlying structure using appropriate structural fasteners (e.g., long screws or lag bolts, not explicitly shown but essential for load-bearing or large decorative elements). Next, position the vertical and diagonal truss elements into place. Once aligned correctly, secure them to the main beam and the existing structure using the nail gun and finishing nails. Continue systematically installing all parts of the decorative truss until the entire assembly is complete, creating a visually appealing and structurally integrated feature.

Goal: Securely install all constructed truss components onto the structure

Tools and materials

  • Air Compressor — Powering the pneumatic nail gun
  • Ladder — Accessing elevated parts of the structure for installation
  • Nail Gun Metabo HPT NR1890DC — Fastening wooden pieces together
  • Safety Glasses — Protecting eyes during installation
  • Spirit Level — Ensuring components are installed horizontally and vertically true
  • Assembled Hollow Beams — The main horizontal and vertical elements of the truss
  • Cut Diagonal Braces — The angled support pieces of the truss
  • Cut Gable End Peak Piece — The top-most piece fitting into the roof apex
  • Finishing Nails — Securing internal truss members
  • Structural Fasteners — Securing main beams to the structure (e.g., lag screws, construction screws)
