One of you all commented a while back that there are over 220 uses for this framing square. So, welcome to Framing Square Friday, where we find out how many uses there actually are for a framing square. Let's get after it. Before we get into all the uses of a framing square, let's learn a little bit of nomenclature. So, to start out, you have your face of a framing square, and you have the back of your framing square. Now, the corner here is called the heel. Now, this thinner, shorter leg right here is called the tongue. And the tongue is an inch and a half wide. And from outside to outside it's 16, inside to inside is 14. This wider part and longer leg of the framing square is called the body or the blade. Outside to outside is 24, inside to inside is 22 and a half. And it's 2 in wide. Now, this being inch and a half and this being 2 in do have a purpose to them. And one of those purposes layout. So, when you go ahead and you can trace your inch and a half here, that inch and a half is the same width as a 2 by 4, 2 by 6, 2 by 8. That 2 is an inch and a half. Now, if you flip it and you add 2 in to your inch and a half, you have 3 and a half. Which is your width of a 2 by 4. Now, if you go ahead and you add another 2 in to that, you have 5 and a half, which is the width of a 2 by 6. Being able to quickly measure inch and a half and 2 in will help you with layout when it comes to building walls. Now, there are plenty of uses for this speed square, and we're going to attempt to find them all. Anyways, it's Friday. I got stuff to do and cold ones to drink. I'll catch you guys on the next Framing Square Friday. Peace.
