What happens here
This video details the process of clearing dense undergrowth and small trees using a compact track loader (skid steer) equipped with a forestry mulcher attachment. It covers equipment setup, safety procedures, various mulching techniques in challenging snowy and muddy conditions, and troubleshooting common issues like getting stuck. The primary goal is to reclaim overgrown pasture land by mulching existing brush.

(8,245 characters)take a look at the skid loader right here guys this is the last time it's gonna look this clean again come on up nope nope you stay with me nope nope we're fine we're fine come on your butt i know your buddies are in the truck wait till they stop don't know don't talk back to me or just go take off on she does what she wants that's what a hound does whatever they want to do ah buck how you doing buck good to see you man how's life treating you very well stay down uncle tom chris hi guys so what we got going on here is that your skid steer is that the other one that's going to do the brush that's what we're going to be using today so let's go check out hey buckley show us what you brought up i want to see what we've got going on uh that's the loftus g4 head that we brought along teeth on it knowing you're going to abuse it a little bit so you put carbide on yeah okay good you know i think for what you got going that'll be best so and then here i've uh basically got a hardware kit for yours to add on the hd hardware get the guarding on it ready to go okay we couldn't ask for a better day huh man supposed to be in the 40s today that's pretty good all right before we can mulch anything we got to put the protective cage over the top of the loader so the reason we have to put the cage on is because forestry mulching can be pretty dangerous actually a lot of those trees those heads will grab them and will shoot them just like a spear like and it sometimes shoots it out the front shoots it out the back so that's actually a bulletproof front glass door [Music] so you're gonna find all sorts of fun stuff whatever's out in that field that's gonna i know there's gonna be all sorts of fun stuff i just don't i i don't care about like cans and other crap i just don't want wires get a good chunk of cable wrapped up in there [Music] so if you look close you see those two bars up front really what those are is if you go into a big tree those two bars are meant to catch the tree from falling back on top of you so you can kind of catch them and guide the tree where you want to go [Applause] so on the farm a lot of our old pasture has been just completely taken over by brush and i thought the best place for us to just start to get familiar with this machine is trying to clear some take back some of our pasture land take some of the brush out and clean it up a little bit [Music] so we've got a lot of just nuisance brush and i'm trying to figure out is it better faster to go top down or to mow it like a lawnmower so so with the forestry head you can also mulch everything up and that's what i want to do in this case because we want to be able to bring the cows back out there and i don't want a whole bunch of sticks poking out of the ground i found out my uncle dug a hole in the swamp and he never filled it in but it kind of slewed in meaning all of the ground just kind of turned into mush and quicksand around it [Music] what i'm trying to do right there is use those front tree tines to push my way out but what's happening is the the weight of that forestry head keeps dragging the front of my asv down [Music] this is the closest i've ever come to getting your stock i'll tell you you get an asv stuff man you're stuck that was a little sketchy that's what i was saying i was like oh you see me getting boys that let me know because these were no you didn't all of a sudden you were all of a sudden it just went whoop yeah she just saw yeah all of a sudden that i even said i was like oh that looks so sketchy over there and then it wasn't you had that thing sunk up to the almost to the bottom of the did you catch it oh i got all of it it's still around i caught it yeah i got it on my phone too i couldn't see it all i know as i was driving and all of a sudden why am i looking directly at the ground just waving it i didn't even have time to wave you down and you broke down man [Music] oh he calls you uncle tom should be sure dammit i was calling i was calling him sir and he told me not to do it well i found out why we sunk yeah there's a hole i know he didn't tell me that there was a hole there was a hole that was running you're the most important guy there yeah we're in a small brush here just kind of go all right i'm gonna try starting on this road yeah i must just because i know that route road is high ground and then i'll start to work my way off road instead of just nose diving right into the mud figured out why we almost got stuck because uncle tom dug a hole there 25 years ago and forgot to tell me about it today so we're going to go a little off trail let's close up you guys can hear me better go a little off trail [Music] so that first button activates the hydraulics and then we kick it into high speed by hitting the button right next to it which is high flow [Music] so this is a road here supposedly [Music] so [Applause] [Music] do [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right boys got a magic trick for you we're gonna make this baby disappear i guess i'm not super sure why he's not going top down instead of going straight into him and trying to get him tangled up but i'm sure there's a reason yeah the reason is i was trying to figure out the fastest way to go through all of this brush without top downing all but i was hoping it was going to pop and i could just go through it but that didn't work out so well if it was a little colder i think it would have worked better because it would have been more brittle this stuff just turned into this real grabby material which if you went too fast yeah this brush had been a little colder or a little drier i would have been able to mow through it faster i think but it was just at this stage where it was just starting to come back to life and all of the energy was going back into the branches and so they were becoming supple and so they were starting to twist and bind instead of shattering all right let's see if sam wants the learning hey you want to try this out i figure if we can just clear this area right here then we've got a straight line and we've got we got that much more pasture cleared out crash course you throttle it all the way up then you've got two buttons up there the detent is your auxiliary the what one the detail yeah and then this one right next to it that is your high flow all right first you gotta get your auxiliary going that just turns your power broom or your power bump your forestry mulcher and then you turn it on the high flow to kick it into the next gear now when you get bound up you turn both of those off and then you use the throttle right here to manually rotate the brush the head as you go backwards or forward to unplug it you got to keep an eye on your fuel because you're at full throttle and she sucks forward you don't you don't use that for nothing that's only when you're bound up all right you guys well let's check out what we've gotten done so far just in the first few hours we were able to clear this much pasture off we've still got to go through and really mulch it in we haven't done that yet but at least we can see what we're working with tomorrow's gonna be a new day today was the let's get familiar with your forestry mulcher day tomorrow is gonna be let's take it into the deep woods and see what it really can do and then the next day hopefully we'll have enough time playing with it that i feel comfortable enough that i can take it up against my cabin and we'll see how the forestry mulcher does against the cabin so that's our video for today guys i want to thank you guys for riding along with us learning as we went sam is having too much fun all right you guys we'll catch you on another one god bless you guys catch you later all right guys well stan left me out here all by my lonesome so we're just gonna keep on clear until it gets dark and maybe a little bit after that we got lights i don't know let's see he finally came in at 10 30 that night but he wasn't by himself because both alex and zach ended up walking out to the pasture and hanging out with them and watching them as he was cutting brush and then all three of them spent the whole night out there just cutting brush having fun and doing what they do [Music]
