What happens here
For very short runs of high-tensile fencing (e.g., 5-acre pastures) where the slack is difficult to absorb with standard methods, Strainrite XT1 ratchet strainers are used as termination points. This specialized strainer allows wire to pass through freely before tensioning, avoiding breaks. For woven wire, the XT1 is tied to the post with a termination knot and 10 tight wraps around the wire. The cog-up design on the XT1 helps maintain an even fence line. The tensioning is done using pliers or a wrench on the cog. The video shows this being done at a post where an existing roll of wire ends and another begins. This method ensures maximum tension and prevents slack in short sections. After tensioning, the excess wire is 'rung off' (twisted until it breaks) to avoid sharp edges that could injure animals.
Goal: Achieve precise tension on short fence runs where slack is difficult to manage
