Drill Holes for Bracket Rods
At 0:05 in
Fastest & strongest way to build floating shelves
What happens here
Attach an auger drill bit (or another appropriate large-diameter drill bit) to a cordless drill. Crucially, attach a drill guide or depth collar to the drill bit. This ensures that the holes are drilled straight and to the exact, consistent depth required for the floating shelf bracket rods. Using the jig board as a guide, carefully drill two holes through the jig board and approximately two-thirds to three-quarters of the way into the thick shelf blank. The video shows the use of a metal guide piece attached to the drill bit, which acts as both a depth stop and a straight-drilling guide.
Goal: Using a drill and a depth guide, create two precise holes through the jig board and into the shelf blank for the floating shelf bracket rods.
