DIY Furniture Painting. Painting Household Furniture With Spray Paint Cans.

What happens here

After the primer has dried completely (manufacturer's recommendations often range from 20 minutes to an hour for recoating), inspect the primed surface for any rough spots. If any are found, lightly sand them with a sanding sponge, being careful not to remove all the primer. Then, re-shake the Rust-Oleum 2X Ultra Cover Spray Paint in yellow. Begin applying the yellow topcoat to the legs of the stool, again using thin, even coats and consistent, smooth motions to achieve full coverage without runs. Flip the stool as needed to ensure all leg surfaces, including the undersides and crossbars, are covered.

Goal: Apply the first color top coat (yellow) to the stool's legs.

be another color. Now it's been about 20 minutes and this chair is dry now to the touch and it's actually dry to top coat. And the manufacturer, you know, recommendations on this spray can is 20 minutes to an hour to recote it. And it's plenty dry now. It's really hot outside. It's about 95° outside, so it's dried extremely fast. Now, I'm just going to rub it down and make sure there's no rough spots on this chair. If there's anything rough, you want to just take your sanding sponge and just very lightly sand it. You don't want to sand off all your primer, but just very lightly sand those rough spots. This chair is completely smooth, so I'm just going to begin painting it with my top coat. And I like to work from bottom up. So, I'm going work from bottom up and then spray my seat last because I'm going to wrap some masking paper around my legs. so I don't get actually get any overspray on my legs. Make sure you shake your can up really good once again and just test it out. And now I'm just going to begin spraying [Music] Once again, I got to flip this chair over so I can work on the underside of it. Also, even though nobody can see it, I just still being a professional painter, I just like to make sure my project is 100% painted. I like to get the bottoms of the feet so they have some protection on them. Typically, these spray cans are an oilbased paint. So, if you get any of the overspray on your hands, you'll need to get some paint thinner to actually wipe it off or clean it off with. So you can wear some rubber gloves if you want to keep it off your hands. [Music] Now, I believe I got these legs all 100% covered now, and I'm going to let this dry, and I'm going to wrap some masking around it, and then we're going to do the stool top.
