What happens here

Due to unexpected and severe water seepage discovered during excavation, the original plan for the wall's base and drainage is modified based on engineering recommendations. To alleviate these water problems, the area around the corner of the wall is excavated deeper (3 feet down) and wider (3 feet out) to create a 'pyramid base'. This allows for a much thicker layer of drainage aggregate and additional geogrid to be installed, ensuring that water has ample space to drain away from the wall's foundation. The additional excavation also includes cutting out a section of the existing parking lot to accommodate this wider base. This step addresses unforeseen challenges and ensures the long-term stability of the wall against hydrostatic pressure.

Goal: Resolve significant water seepage issues by implementing an engineered drainage solution.

Tools and materials

  • Daewoo Excavator — Re-excavating the wall base for the pyramid drainage system
  • Drainage Aggregate — Filling the pyramid base to allow for water flow
  • Engineering Consultation N/A — Designing the appropriate drainage solution for complex water issues
  • Geogrid — Additional reinforcement within the pyramid base
  • Skid Steer Loader Volvo — Moving excavated material

with the smaller packer all right uh you guys are gonna have to excuse my french on this but today just went here's what's going on so this is this is gonna be our outside 90 right here and then the wall is going to start swinging out that way the first scoop or second scoop we took with the excavator through here water to start pouring in that's four inches of water sitting there where our bases are supposed to be going which is like the last thing you want to see when you're trying to put in a base for a wall uh we're not 100 sure where it was coming in from it filled in so fast here's what we're going to do to alleviate these water problems we're having on our corner though so we heard back from the engineer and all he wants us to do is go down like three feet and just go extra heavy with the base so that the water has somewhere to go um and in order to do that obviously we have to excavate down three feet we just filled this in right now because there's a whole lot of kids running around this complex and tim didn't want any of them falling in there getting hurt but in order to get down that three feet there's a ratio so for every foot you go down you have to go a foot out so we have to cut a chunk pyramid of the parking lot out in order to get that room in front of where our wall is gonna be to do this correction so three feet down we need three feet in front uh we're gonna do that right away in the morning and then uh after that as long as nothing else goes wrong we are just gonna get in as much base as we can through here okay so it's not technically three feet in front it's a it's actually a pyramid so because the weight of the block doesn't go straight down it put it goes outward we've got to compensate and create that pyramid effect so as we go down we may have 12 inches in front 12 inches behind just depends on how much rock we put in also when we get into a soil correction situation like this we like to layer grid into the rock as well and i don't know if we've got that on film or not we've had one problem after another on this job site not just limited to the actual job site but it's almost like this site is cursed to us because our my cameras completely fried out one of them fried after a week of filming we don't i don't even know what's savable at this point um so i mean it's just been one thing after another after another this is one of those jobs where it just feels good to say we're done i don't have to go there tomorrow i'm guessing some…
