What happens here

One electrician is seen working at ground level, beginning the installation of the new 200 amp meter box. Simultaneously, the other electrician (the narrator) ascends an extension ladder to the roofline to prepare the service weatherhead. This preparation involves stripping the existing service wires (4/0 aluminum conductors) to expose the conductive material, making them ready for connection to the utility's overhead lines.

Goal: Install the new meter box and prepare the existing service wires for connection.

Tools and materials

  • Extension Ladder — Accessing the service weatherhead at the roofline
  • Wire Strippers — Removing insulation from the service conductors
  • Work Gloves — Protecting hands during installation and wire handling
  • 4/0 Aluminum Conductors — The main service wires connecting to the utility
