Built this project for my mom, she previously had pretty dangerous wooden steps

What happens here

Once the step risers and planter walls are built, proceed to install the flat paver stones for the step treads and the main landing area. The video specifically mentions "Unilock Copthorne" pavers for the walk-out section, suggesting a brick-like aesthetic, likely combined with larger, flat paver units (possibly Rivercrest caps or specialized step treads) for the actual walking surfaces of the steps. Lay these pavers tightly on the prepared bedding sand (for the landing) or on top of the block risers (for treads), ensuring they are level and have a consistent joint spacing. Use a rubber mallet to seat each paver firmly. Make any necessary cuts to fit around edges, posts, or the house using a paver cutter or concrete saw.

Goal: Create a smooth, level, and aesthetically pleasing walking surface for the steps and the main patio entrance.

Tools and materials

  • Level — Checking the level of each paver as it's laid
  • Paver Cutter — Making clean, straight cuts on pavers
  • Rubber Mallet — Seating pavers firmly into the bedding sand/adhesive
  • Tape Measure — Measuring and marking pavers for cuts
  • Bedding Sand — Providing a cushioning and leveling layer for the landing pavers
