(20,000 characters)excuse me all right guys welcome back this is episode three yep got the right amount of fingers where we are going to be bolting the 4l80 to the 5.3 going over the new flex plate converter all that stuff first things first i got to get the pan back on here the previous video if you have not seen it uh we installed the necessary components of an hd2 shift kit into here into the pump but uh just had to go get a new filter today so we gotta throw that back on then we're gonna pick uncle rob up and pull the old flex plate off and dive into the new components here from pro torque and bonnet font friction sfi certified flex plate triple disc converter all the good stuff um we'll go more detail on that when it's time to open them but right now we gotta put the filter on there and put the pan back on where did uh i put the filter right well this is it pretty simple cool enough it actually came with a new pan gasket too which i forgot to get i realized i forgot to get it and i was gonna reuse the old one because it was kind of like the thick i think kind but now we don't have to now this is a very precise operation i want you guys to pay very close attention here because there's a very high probability you will not mess this up at home so that's it that's all i had to do i said you probably wouldn't mess it up at home if you mess that up at home you've had too many beers or some other issues we don't even need to go into old gasket nice and crusty you might as well clean that back out before we put it on like it's probably just something you should do so now we got the filter and the pan back on and we can now buzz this off the old flex plate you can't use the same flex plate with the 406 and 480. the spacing is different don't get the 480 in the converter and have it you know you're going to bolt it up it's not going to fit so yeah the if you want to use an oem style flex plate it's going to have to have a spacer in here space it out and then give a new place for the cam button to seat beaker the the converter button to see because there's actually a nub on the back of the torque converter that seats in here kind of centers everything so it doesn't vibrate but yeah that's a whole another thing there's a plethora of information on that on google if you search it kind of like a lot of things that i get asked a lot just saying you need to use google before you ask people things anyway uh let's get this off and get our super sweet bonafide friction flex plate on there but we'll unbox that after we pull this thing off ashley found a new way to blow up before a lady i still don't know how you did that yes you took the middle of the bell housing out how no well the rear end was wobbling and it shouldn't be i guess that looked like the uh i think the u-joint bind it up and it ripped out of the drive shaft and that's when it turned out it's kind of hard to tell because there's so much destruction and been there destroyed so check out that candy band shirt though yeah stapleton autoworks.com check it out link in the description anyway yeah um you might as well wipe this stuff off just so we don't bump into it because it's gross safest place to put bolts on the floor it's not that is bad nut discipline so this is a pretty cool deal bonafide friction is primarily known for making clutches for like top fuel drag cars that's what they do um rob bonafon is basically like the most patriotic manufacturing sector owner that i know and he posts some pretty fire memes on instagram so naturally you know that he's gonna have the best stuff they do uh pro tour and bonafire in the same building now pro torque used to be based in new york and they moved into the same facility with these guys for the ultimate team of awesomeness i have a bonafont flex plate and a pro tour converter in the escalade i've had both of these things in there for years working with these guys for a long time wouldn't be using anything else it's sfi certified so if you need an sfi flex plate made in usa and they have a cool looking logo that's like really important to me to have a cool looking logo i don't know leave a comment if you get a car part and it comes with stickers but the company has a lame looking logo are you going to put it on your car let me know because i don't the company has a cool logo hell yeah that's going on the wall the toolbox something like this freaking sweet and actually fun fact rob helped me pick the style of logo that i currently use because i wanted input from somebody who mattered yeah there's legitimately i got a screenshot of a text or i showed him that over another design i was working on and he picked that one even though it was kind of hard to read and he said i like it because it's hard to read put the full text at the bottom people are gonna stare at it wonder what it is then they're gonna read it and that's how you make your impression so i thought okay that sounds good to me i trust you and two years later here we are this logo is the one that works and the guy with the name on this box is a big reason why this is an authentic krusty krab pizza box you know it's for you and me bonafide flex plate just for you and me and you can eat it without your drink too ah what are you doing what you already ruined it john you're fired go home just clock out fire we need an equal equivalent like handyman on the side right here is a series unit you're not going to break this let's see here are you actually going to read it i am going to throw it over your shoulder i'm going to read it uh i'm basically just looking for a torque spec on here pretty much uh the instructions say 12 foot pounds with blue loctite but it says with bonnet font bolts i don't have bonnefont both i just have the ones that came out of it and the factory torque spec for those is 74 foot-pounds so i think i'm just going to go with a solid 55 and still use the loctite because i'd rather make it too tight than not tight enough and have it come off i know i tighten the bolts on the escalades flex plate to the factory number of 74 and it's doing just fine so i foresee no no difference here yeah so it says it has transmission side lasered into here i don't know that it really makes a difference but there's like a little hole here and a hole in the crank i'm gonna line those up anyway just because i can't probably should uh it wants you to check the starter engagement before you do everything else i feel like there's a reason for that so we're not going to put the loctite in yet we're just going to throw a couple bolts in tighten it down and then knock the starter back up to see where the teeth are at once it pushes out because if for some reason this doesn't work i would hate to have to pull the transmission back out and do that so we're taking the easy way so in line with the instructions we're verifying the uh starter to flex plate clearance real quick i guess i'll just do that so i'm taller uh you can stick a little thingy in this hole here and kind of get the bendix to pop out and do it that way you can see it does engage it's not super tight it's kind of where it needs to be and i guess it's going to be stupid to come back out i don't know why it doesn't want to roll back that way and when it is not engaged uh the teeth have enough space in there away from the flex plate so we're good to go it says anything from 0.1 to 0.04 which i don't know exactly what that is but it looks good to me i've never actually validated this i've always put stuff together and it's always worked so i'm just gonna assume this is fine if there was a problem it would be apparent at this point so we're gonna take this back off and finish bolting all the rest of these things down here all right now i didn't impact these down i just used it enough to get it to where it was touching and we'll go here with our own arbitrary torque spec of 65 foot-pounds but i'm not going to take it the whole way and it's going to take you to maybe like 30 do two passes oh nice we're gonna have to hold the motor all right that's my new number torque until the motor spins and then we'll wipe something in there to do the rest of it cool and this torque wrench is super tuner tanners and it's probably worth about half as much as uncle rob was before it had turbo so i'm gonna clean it off and put it back now okay so we're gonna unbox the converter now because we are about to roll the transmission back over put it on the stand and stick it in there let's check this thing out and we're just going to do an unboxing here because i kind of it had already been opened by the guys in the shop that wanted to see what it looked like and then i had a little bit of a camera derp out whenever i opened it again to pre-fill it with fluid so we kind of settle in there by the time we needed it so let's just pretend here that it's not it's oh wow look at this box it's not covered in oil from me being terrible at pouring fluid on things wow it's clean and it looks great pro torque converter it's already full of fluid i guess i was just thinking ahead but where are the instructions i don't know where are the instructions how about that you scan that thingy for the instructions to get them on your phone so you don't lose them see how this works is you open the camera app if you qr code hack if you see these dumb things and you don't know what they're for or how to use them you don't need an app to do it you just go into the camera point at it and just hold your thumb on there and it will say openprotorq.com so you just do that and wait for your bad phone service to open it yeah let's say view converter installation instructions right there and then it'll give you uh see which one you got so you don't have to lose your piece of paper and then go find out where to find the instructions after you lose them so when you put a converter in you always got to pour fluid in it because it holds a good bit of fluid itself you pre-fill it before you put it on the transmission so it doesn't you don't have to keep pouring it in through the dipstick as it pumps it in there you want to have it pre-filled and it takes a while for it to settle in there so you can like spin it get it to go out through the fins and all that stuff which i already did so we can get this thing taken out and you're ready to stop that thing in there let's do it how about you turn the camera off oh don't try this at home kids i have done this a few times but we got it on here we can put the converter on what what oh great off to the other side of the building i go i've only made four traps back and forth looking for something he tightened the floor jack so tight none of you can undo it yeah come on you go do it we need muscles you need oh god [Music] all three of us tried to get it and they made fun of me when i couldn't get it on the first try oh my god anyway what i was doing is i was thinking oh crap i need to go to a dealership and get a shifter cable bracket because this transmission doesn't have one and then i remembered wait a minute i had to get one of those for the s-clip i had one on there before that thing had a manual valve body i had a factory bracket on there and i thought what did i do with that i was looking around some of the boxes of you know escalade parts i brought down from pennsylvania and they weren't in there and i realized wait a minute i think i know where it is let's go do some investigating here well how about that that's what we need right there i just zip tied it to the freaking frame got it out of my face and now it's there and i need it so let me get some wire cutters and it's going to cut that thing out don't you love but you just love when that happens we got part truck right here is that what you want no you're supposed to live with your legs not your back cod what did you all do to that door nothing try to open it i know it's hard i opened it yesterday you lose a bit in the name of saving time and not using jack stands i'm just really shoving myself under your stang exhaust pipe where's my zip tie where's the one i'm looking for oh there it is i see it i'll see you guys i'm gonna get you oh yeah that's the money right there and when i did this i didn't have the right clip to hold this cable in so i just precariously fed zip ties through there so it would stay i'm gonna cut those two that's what we needed right there parts truck extraordinaire this is all coming back to me now i don't remember when when i bought this bracket because i didn't buy it i pulled it off of this transmission i harvested this shifter bracket from this transmission because like i said in the previous video i bought that transmission connected to the transfer cases in the escalade so i farmed this bracket off of it and then sanded it down and repainted it and put it in there and now three years later it's going home where it belongs in uncle rob it's the circle of life so we are going to seat the converter now and show you how to do that the right way or at least the way that works that i use is it the right way yeah it works doesn't it maybe there's more steps to it or more preciseness but you know you got the old click three times and send her home there's an o-ring on here this is important this seals like the converter lock and stuff that o-ring is very important and when i first put the escalade together the tolerance between the aftermarket output shaft of my converter was too tight and i kept ripping the o-ring getting it on i had to uh like go in and kind of file out the edge on the inside of the converter to get it to work but the factory ones usually have a problem just you know be sure that one your transmission has an o-ring and that you don't screw it up if you encounter lots of resistance putting it on once it's clicked on the first two times then it's resisting against that o-ring so just be careful don't bang it with a hammer if it's going on correctly you should be able to just do it you know by wiggling it around i put this cardboard here because a lot of times when you fill up the converter and you go to turn it it might dump a little bit back out so we are ready for that if that is to happen see there's fluid in there i don't know if you can see it oh yeah totally see it yep it's in there just trust me it's very wet so careful here so there's one two and i can tell it's not on the third one because i can get my fingers back here you just kind of there we go there's the third one you know it's in the whole way if you put your finger your whole hand behind the converter between the back of the convert on the pump you should just you should be able to feel the converter and the pump body with your finger like it should be close if there's room to move your hand around in there like that it's not in the hallway so don't got to try to stuff it in but not in the hallway because you'll bolt it all up you might think it'll work and everything it will not work you'll blow up the transmission i've never done that but my friends have and it's a sad thing when that happens just gotta take the whole thing back out and your freshly rebuilt transmission is blowed up again so simple steps prevent dumb things like that from happening also this is the cam why do i keep saying cam button converter crank button thing that is apparently going to give me a hard time yeah this is what seats into the crankshaft never seen one have a cover on it but gotta take the cover off it's protected yeah you gotta protect your nub well now we got this on there everything spins okay we're ready to shove it up in there but first we're gonna have to lower it back down it's too high for this jack to reach so yeah always check your surroundings before you start lowering stuff because if we lowered it right now with that pole under there we dump uncle rob face first stop the lift into the floor so something i do on the escalade is uh the first time i ever put it together i put a little bit of anti-seize on the dowel pins to prevent the fiasco that we had in the other video of getting the 4l60 out where it gets stuck real bad if you lube all this up it does not do that it'll just come right out so if you're a guy like me who's sending stuff to the moon all the time you know putting some anti-seize in here i put it on the bolts too that way uh once you crack them loose you can just get them out with your fingers that's my favorite and we're not going to use all the bolts again either because screw that screw that top one i hate you go away forever and since that particular transmission is kind of crowdy for because it's from ohio i'm just going gonna put some on here too because if it's all that the transmission is already crusty um that means it will probably stick to the block a little quicker i mean you probably don't need this much but it's already on the brush so we're just gonna let it rip in a few months hopefully at least a few months when we cook this thing from making too much power it'll be easy for us to take out again it's time for the insertion that's what she said we're just going to shove it in that's more like it what you the camera's on i know oh i can edit stuff at all maybe i'll leave that there though just see if you can see how i really am when an extension cord gets in my way cute little john puppy dip poop to jam that's what he did last time i was doing this with the monte carlo oh my god freaking die he must have heard that from like a cheer or something that's the era of music that he listens to he's weird funny yeah that used to be like a cheer that we had to do and i hated it it was so annoying and then you had to like dance at the end that was like the part that made me hate it you didn't like dancing no okay well that's why that's not working the doll pin from the engine that this transmission was connected to is still in the bell housing that's why it's not working so i have to lower this down and take that out you're not gonna lower it the whole way are you no just enough to get it out [Music] cool yeah uh lesson to be learned here make sure existing dowel pins are not still stuck in your transmission because if this wasn't on a train jack if you're doing this on the floor and you had it precariously perched on a jack or your friend is underneath it and you're all dying yelling at each other because no one's in the right spot we've all been there and then you find out that this dowel thingy is still in here you guys are going to be having a bad time but yeah it's out of the other side so we'll just punch this out real quick actually glad now we have an extra one of these now i'm just making sure that the little fuel line bracket deal doesn't get stuck between the block and the bell housing um but i got out of the way so bro right here we're on one dowel on that side his big no now to pull the transmission to the block with the bolts although everything everybody does it a little bit you can still do it just don't be an idiot about it so we can get a couple of these started here this formation is typically how i have to work on a vehicle under a lift because they don't go high enough for me this one does but this training jack doesn't go high enough so i have to do freaking splits again excuse me me that was not me you can edit that out i could but i won't logan farted it was loud okay we got four of these in just enough hand threaded to make sure that we don't lose progress with it now i'm gonna get behind this thing just give it a good shove well here's the transfer case we're going on an adventure a facebook marketplace adventure for a transfer case for uncle rob a found one a 261 hd it is the one we need and it was like an hour and a half hour 40 minutes away from arlington kind of out in the middle of nowhere here just kind of nice i haven't driven around in the country in a good bit this is like this is the real texas out here you know speed limit 75 there's houses on…
