What happens here
This project guides you through the installation of a ComfortBilt pellet stove in a cabin, highlighting the benefits of a pellet stove as an alternative heating source, especially for areas where traditional wood-burning stoves are impractical due to extensive chimney requirements. The installation involves precise drilling for exhaust and intake pipes through a log cabin wall, assembly of double-walled flue components, and external finishing with heat shields and caps.

(17,114 characters)they want you to put a matting underneath this fireproof matting the whole floor is matting the whole it's concrete we'll turn the camera back on once we get back to whatever we're doing but it was in front of a cop so the cop was like if you ever do that in front of a cop again we're going to have problems and it's raining so perfect day for it and the last thing I want to do is crackalack this thing open and just look at a stack I mean that's a that's a tall Fire stack right there we left the Ventures with Zach All Because Stan got a brilliant idea to put it in the basement something has to change 2 years ago we got ourselves in a pretty tight spot it had snowed so much that the propane truck deliver propane could not make it to my propane tank and two of my houses almost froze completely out and if I can't and it was there was so much snow up North 120 in and it kept falling that if I can't clear a path I can't get a propane truck up my houses will freeze out so I want to put up a secondary backup source of heat that does not require Pro me to bre put all of my eggs in one basket because anytime you do that you can get yourself in a in trouble so just like with business never put all of your eggs in one basket so I'm going to put in an alternate heat Source I have an alternate heat Source in my main house I have a wood burning fireplace as well as gas coming in I also have a backup uh generator installed so that if that everything goes out even in the worst possible conditions I'm still in business all of my other properties all have two separate sources of heat so I'm not uh relying on one person so except for my main cabin and we got to go up north now and do that so let's uh let's head in smoking a cigarette I see you I'm giving you my stuff your off I have I have a thingy I have my other camera that's on the the mountain all right well I'm going to give you this one just I'm coming up on Monday so I'm going to turn the camera over to Zach cuz he's going to be that way he doesn't have to drive here on Monday I never my cigarettes in your yard I didn't never threw my cigarettes in your yard I didn't know if you wanted to be on camera SM a damn cigarette cuz I know you don't like that so I was trying to be respectful to the Views I I I found one in my front yard it wasn't from him once and I never throw him on your property ever no and I've always said that a guy is welcome to smoke a cigarette on the job as long as his hands never touch it yeah you know what that means yeah as long as you're on break yeah yeah and when you're not on break your hands I'm paying for your hands I'm paying for both of them anyway uh I'm going to send the camera up North with you you get started moving the uh the putting the new furnace in in the basement up North with Frankie yep show these guys around and then whatever after that and if you don't like the footage you guys are about to see blame that guy but I'll be up in a little bit right after you here you go all right good morning everyone we're here at shanger you me and Frankie are going to be putting in a pet stove today so I just got to figure out where Frankie is and and go from there all right so Frankie went and got all these supplies so how much was all this stuff Frankie 800 bucks uh 700 and something bucks but I'm probably going to have to get a few more pieces yeah much of materials but sure does cost a lot yeah I didn't realize how much everything was F out this ain't a corn and wood this is just a wood pellet yeah so yeah basically you buy them I mean I I don't know if anybody that makes their own pets right I haven't got all the parts yet that's crazy oh my God I was joking Frankie's like how much do you think that come like $653 thinking realistically probably $300 or $400 yeah that's what I would have thought because it's what double selled double walled double walled that's the thing that's why these things are so expensive so how much extra should you budget if you get one of these things Frankie approximately a th000 for materials and that's not a lot of piping either cuz that's the reason we're going with this thing and I went minimal piping minimal height and everything too cuz they say that's the better to you know not to have long spans right I went short spans short as I figured we need it okay to get it out of the house and that's it so the benefits to this thing are the the lack of pipe that we need yeah I mean that's that really is it we don't have to go above the roof we don't have to go above the roof that's the key and some places you guys don't have access to go above a roof so that was part of it what we used to have is a furnace a wood burner and it was right there and the piping had to go all the way up there and then it had to go above the peak of the roof so they you don't get that draft I mean that's a that's a tall Fire stack right there that's why we're going with a pet stove in this case because it just straight out the wall and boom you don't have to clean out that thing getting everything lined up it's an alternative heat Source cuz this was the place that two seasons ago we couldn't get a propane truck too more of this yeah we're going to mount it right there I guess see this was my idea if we do that if we do the corner thing yeah I can go out one side with the exhaust and one on this side then with the intake cuz you got to keep the got to keep them so far apart so we ain't sucking in the heat the exhaust right away you know okay so he will be should be able to do it that way if you do it one on each wall okay that's fine so our bedroom our lower bedroom this is going to get moved over to the other side of the the lake this is going to be the bed for the master bedroom all right let's take you upstairs let's show you some of the challenges we were facing up here we have all these windows in and the last thing I want to do is crack AAC this thing open and just look at a stack a chimney stack wood burner yeah wood burning is the ultimate Independence for heat absolutely but it's dirty I mean I have wood burners I've lived with them my entire life it's a lot of work and if you just need some something to give yourself some peace of mind and provide heat there is other options out there that's what I like about this oh you figur that might be also appear in the rurals but yeah but still everybody that's going to be installing these things is probably going to be in the rurals 50 bucks for that unre wrong business yeah I've been in the wrong business my whole life I think Frankie you go be a plumber or electrician you can charge like three times as much that one won Tighten Up For What what happened I mean besides Zach's fashionista statement of win fashionista short so what happened oh we uh went we went to Good Neighbor days up in Hugo with her mom or whatever my one daughter or kept taking off wouldn't listen to either us or her her mom um it got lost then we found her lost her again then and they had to make an announcement for her to come up to the stage cuz we lost her again and cuz she won't listen and then and then as my woman's walking around cuz her mom didn't bring her phone with her so she had no communication with her so she was walking around trying to find everybody well she had missed and tripped and ran into like one of those concrete pillars or whatever or bruised up her whole one side your wife did yes okay but how's that her her almost getting arrested cuz then when cuz then when she found our daughter or or she went to go discipline her by just kind of just grabbing the Scruff of her shirt or wanted to just get a hold of her and then the cop then but it was in front of a cop so the cop was like if you ever do that in front of a cop again we're going to have problems so she almost got arrested for basically trying to discipline our child for running away what yeah makes sense even she just looked at him with a straight face and was just like okay and then walked away does that make sense to you no cuz I would have W wall up the kid and we left the house adventures with Zach so we have a stove we've got to get in and uh we we're deciding that that son of a duck is going to go right in this corner that makes the most sense which way you want a facing basically I want it facing into the corner so you got to peek around to actually see the fire no no no no I want facing that or the steps are just at in that corner you know what I'm saying out of that corner um the glass part yeah I don't think this way would be make any sense I would say just straight out that way or kind of add the corner what you I we're going to stick it in the corner pipes are going to go so it don't matter to me we can put it yeah but if you put it this way then the Heat's going to generate that way this way at least it's going to radiate out and it's going to hit here which is the above the yeah I'd say angle it I couldn't find no matting they want you to put a matting underneath this fireproof matting the whole floor is matting the whole it's concrete stff I don't even I don't know what the epoxy stuff's rated for but we want to lift it up like a block High I feel like I'm putting a job in with Timmy now yeah I'm just saying I'll put it on there but I mean I might melt the floor I might melt that paint no I was thinking them like patio block no I'd say just go for it I mean I've never actually seen a fireplace where the heat radiates down right it always goes up and that one looks like you got 12 in of space between at least 12 in of space from this point down that's kind of like your cushion right cuz your heat starts here do even nothing opens to get at no you got to vacuum it all from the the inside there and then that's the hopper but there's to be another clean someplace so now you know somebody that has one of Frankie is the reason why we have this by the way so all of Frankie likes to make his own work uh I mean the entire cabin is Al Frankie's design cuz he wanted the roof running this way and not this way isn't the running bet that we that you get a million dollars if you can find the blueprints for this place oh yeah yeah yeah yeah we made it up as we went um now you did one of these before though right Frankie the guy he hooked it up yep have you talked to that guy does he like it oh yeah yeah no he loves it but his now his is a corn wood burner which we we just piped it right from the back of the stove outside that's it we did had no in in in with wood corn or wood yeah he can burn wood that makes no sense yeah corn or wood burnning yeah but you got to go above that we piped right out we piped right out of his out of the house straight out with the heat the heat van see this this I could also I can I can go straight out if but I got block so I couldn't go straight out so okay that's why we got to come up then go out here how long does the actual corn last yeah he puts in a a scoop a I think I don't know maybe a day it it's a good deal for him he likes it he likes it huh yep well he's the reason why we got it cuz he's the one that said about it so you know and his op about the same ah maybe even a little smaller but now he cleans his Hoppers smaller his Hopper is a little smaller even cuz that one you can get a larger Hopper on yeah I I read that part yeah which maybe wouldn't be a bad idea but now the shorter the shorter the length of pipe that you use for the exhaust and the less ashes you'll have to clean out the longer the pipe the the more pipe you use the more often you got to clean your pipe or your stove really that's what it yeah that's what it says in the deal when I was reading it on it hm that was kind of interesting and it makes sense because it takes so much longer to push it out your exhaust so your stove is working harder I would imagine and same thing with the intake the intake it wants to if you have too many 90s on the intake to get out of your house then you got to put a fan in there to help pull that air in from outside oh okay so it needs cuz it needs that cuz the the flame will go out if you got too much piping for the intake cuz it won't it won't combust we all I always had a problem in this room trying to get get the the wood burner to light right yep yeah because there was no dra we couldn't get a draft we could not get a draft we we needed to go even higher than we were before yep so and then and then to get that draft going it took a long time for that draft to get up to that to start to get yeah so this is a comfort built pellet stove and the drawback to this stove is it does require electricity to run but if all systems fail propane goes out electricity goes out I have generators ready to go and that would continue to heat this home just enough to get me by in case of an emergency or a bind I'm a firm believer in always having a backup system available whether that's in your primary residence or if that's in a backup residence relying on one source of heat I feel is a complete downfall and setting yourself up for failure I always like to have multiple sources of heat but in in this case this house that we're in a wood burning stove just doesn't make sense because of the length of flu that I needed to to get above the roof line to make it efficient and draft properly with this pellet stove I don't need a long flu system to get it to drve properly and it'll provide enough heat and simplicity that I can go in plug it in hit a couple buttons and I've got instant heat in my home I'm actually really really pumped about this thing but let's just show you the installation process all right so again with stands after the fact after the fact after the fact stuff we had we had to back out few screws holding this fake rock on cuz right there I don't know if you can see it right right there to my finger here is where the drill bit came out so we got to cut around this so for the exit hole then we got to put a shroud on there so and all right yeah so we got to pull this log off so we can get this situated in there there a heat shield so yeah now part of the reason the materials for this project cost so much is because anytime we penetrate an outside wall we always have to use a double wall pipe a single wall pipe you probably already know this but for somebody that may be looking at this is an option a single wall pipe is a fire hazard a double wall pipe allows just enough space so that when you're doing the installation there's a heat Gap so you don't have a hot pipe sitting directly on a wall but let's just watch this thing get finally put back together and see how it comes out now some of you guys may say that Al pellet stove has absolutely nothing to do with being energy independent because you're trading one form of dependen for another you're trading your dependency for propane or uh natural gas for pellets but here's my counter to that argument in this case I wanted a backup form of heat not a primary source of heat but a backup form of heat but you can also create your own wood pellets I didn't know this till my daughter explained to me the process she looked it up because she was looking at doing one of these things so if you do really want to have this as your primary source of heat and complete energy Independence it's possible I'm not saying I would do it but it's possible but as a backup source of heat being able to go up North with a couple bags of wood pellets throw them in hit a couple buttons and know that I'm not going to be froze out I don't have to split wood I don't have to stack wood I don't have to have a smoke stack going on all the way over up to the peak of my roof this is a great secondary source of heat if you ask me uh now this was the Comfort built I looked at a lot of different pellet stoves I liked what I've seen in Comfort built but I'm going to suggest that you guys do your own research find the one that's right for you but that's it for this video hope you guys enjoyed this process and and I will catch you guys on another one God bless go get him oh wait I'm going to turn it over to Zach and let him show you the finished product [Music] all right good morning everybody we finished the stove mostly last night it but I had other stuff I had to get done before we got we got a super storm and rain last night so I wanted to get everything done out done outside before it rained so I couldn't do a final wrap up and then it was raining so then dark but yeah we got stove in got that pipe in got this one in and cocked around walls just need to be kind of touched back up with some paint probably but yeah we got the stove in I'll show you the outside stuff oh I like a Carried Away by mosquitoes yeah Frankie got this in and for keep the rain off of it now and then the intake is over here here on this side have it bent down so it sucks inz that's cold air here this where the heat comes so now we just need pellets and to test it out and that's over to stand so we'll uh give over to Stan and Danny right now so you guys take it away and on to the next project video [Music]
